Ellessse duet and monthly bleeds

My periods started to become very erratic 4 years ago at the age of 41. I would sometimes not have a period for 8 weeks then I would have one 2 weeks later sometimes lasting 3 days other times 9 days. I went to the docs and they tested my FSH levels twice and both times they came up high for peri menopause. At the time I couldn't believe I could possibly be menopausal, due to my age but I was suffering with palpitations and night sweats but just put this down to being stressed with a busy work and home life. Anyway the GP suggested Elleste duet and no more night sweats or palpitations. I have never suffered with the anxiety or moodiness that some people suffer. I was always in 2 minds as whether to go on HRT as my symptoms were very minor and minimal but GP said as I am young my bones and heart are not protected so it is important to be on HRT for thisi reason. My question is though I have regular bleeds on elleste - roughly about every 27 days. One day when I am at full menopause do these bleeds just stop??

I wondered this OP. I stopped taking Elleste duet 1mg as I couldn't get them anymore Sad and missed one period, then had the other as normal. I was never sure whether the bleed on Duet was one of those artificial withdrawal bleeds as you get with the pill.

Ok, so I am now not sure that we were on the same tablet, so ignore if not.

Well I'm not on elleste duet any more as I'm intolerant to the progestin part of it which made me suicidal. I use oestrogen gel and micronised progesterone instead and no I don't get monthly bleeds any more. They were concerned, but I was scanned and they're satisfied all is ok.

@billnewhat You will continue to have a 'period' as long as you use that kind of HRT.

The 2 hormones in the pack follow a cycle- you know, progestogens for half the month- then a withdrawal bleed.

A small percentage of women - around 15-20%- do not bleed usually because they amount of estrogen is not thickening the lining enough to come away.

You can at some point change to a no-bleed type of HRT. Have a read around about hrt for peri and post meno.
