Virginal Atrophy - what does it look like?

Been having nearly 2 years of pain after having a wee. I have a bright red area just under my urethra. Gynaecologist says it doesn’t look like atrophy. Just wondering what atrophy actually looks like?! Can you see it? Is it all over the vulva or just in one area? Sorry to ask, google images is pretty useless!

virginal Grin
predictive text?

You need to go by symptoms.
Sometimes nothing can be seen. There are lots of images on google in fact. It can show redness or when severe, whiteness instead of healthy pink. There are stages from mild to severe. In severe, the labia can fuse together and so can the vaginal walls.

If you are in perimenopause, then you should try vaginal estrogen. Proof is if it works.

Presume you have had swabs taken for other things like thrush, BV, STds, (incl chlamydia) etc?

Lol! Well it’s rendered me virginal! Grin

I’ve had so many swabs now, all negative. Am on the vagifem but not noticed much improvement, all creams, bar Vaseline, sting too much for me to continue beyond a fe days. Considering asking for a biopsy.

Could it be a urethral carbuncle, Op? Though i’d be surprised that your gynaecologist wouldn’t recognise one. Have a look on the internet. There usually harmless and not symptomatic, but can be removed if the cause a problem.

No it’s not a caruncle, gynaecologist and urologist ruled that out. I’m 43, still having regular periods although they have stretched out a bit.
