Dr says only alternative is fluoxetine (prozac)
I can't take oral hormones (stroke risk) but surely there must be a compatable patch???
They have been spectacularly unhelpful tbh.
Help!

.Hi Buffy it’s me again😁.
I thought there is currently no issue with this particular brand. It’s certainly still available as a online prescription. Elleste Conti is not available though. Did your Gp tell you this or the chemist? Because sometimes chemists don’t have it in stock but have to order it in. In fact I was told by my chemist this is the one patch with no issues as of yet.
I’m currently on Evorel Oestrogen patch and Utrogestan a body identical progesterone as this type of Progesterone is thought to be more acceptable and slightly better tolerated. I think it’s the Oestrogen which is supposed to cause a increase in the stroke likelihood so it’s best in patch or cream/gel form. I don’t think this applies to the progesterone though. But I’m no expert and will wait for someone to come along with more expertise than me.

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 17:24

Hi :)
Yep, been told by both gp and pharmacist that it's no longer available.

OP posts:
teta · 30/04/2019 17:37

It’s in stock on all the online pharmacists🤨. I’ve just checked. Can you go to a different chemist? Or ask your gp to prescribe generically?

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 17:42

Sorry for my idiocy but how do I do that??
Do I ask the gp for a script?

@lambuffy

You DO have other options.
Sounds as if your GP is clueless.

You don't have to have a patch or a pill combo, you can mix and match.

Your other option is estrogen gel, or an estrogen-only patch and then a separate progestogen. This can be Utrogestan which is a natural progesterone, or a tablet like Norethisterone. I don't think the clotting risk applies with progestogens.

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 18:24

The gp had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned gel!

well they bloody well ought to and if not they ought to find out. It's on the web and they can go on menopause training courses! Ridiculous- are they are dinosaur?

NoSauce · 01/05/2019 11:26

I’m confused, I’ve just been prescribed this only last week. Confused

Iambuffy · 01/05/2019 11:27

Ive got an appt with the pharmacist later - I'll let you know!

Lloyd's pharmacy can't get it....which online pharmacies are you using??

OP posts:
JinglingHellsBells · 01/05/2019 12:14

To be honest @lambuffy pharmacists are great but it's asking a lot to expect them to know every type of HRT.

This table from Menopause Matters shows what's in each type of HRT (this is the post meno options.)

www.menopausematters.co.uk/postmeno.php

You have a pretty standard type of HRT- estradiol and Norethisterone.

I have used HRT for 11 years and have never had a pack of pills or a pack of patches. My gynae (okay, he's brilliant, and I see him privately) prescribes separate items to suit needs. But they are available on the NHS. You just need a dr who is willing to learn- even if that means opening a link like the one I've left!

If you have a stroke risk (is that for sure or another 'myth' by your GP?) then yes you need transdermal. That can be estrogen gel (which has been available for decades) and a separate progestogen - in your case, Norethisterone tablets, in the dose needed for your dose of estogen.

The doses are on the link.

JinglingHellsBells · 01/05/2019 12:16

You can also have an estrogen only patch and Utrogestan (100mgs daily) for the conti regime.

teta · 01/05/2019 12:47

Buffy Lloyd’s say it’s in stock on the online Lloyd’s!
You need to show this to your pharmacist and haul him up.
Are you sure your chemist & gp aren’t in cahoots to stop Hrt prescriptions. Are they two old fogies?
I’m saying this as a long time drug rep many years ago n have seen everything!

teta · 01/05/2019 12:54

My local chemist was able to check my Hrt dose from different prescriptions as he could track my history and gave me some really good advice. Even though I was convinced I had been given the incorrect dosage ( I was the one who demanded the change).
So some chemists are extremely good.

Iambuffy · 01/05/2019 14:08

Nothing surprises me anymore teta!

I know some can get it but I keel being told "no"

Hopefully the pharmacist can provide an alternative

Drs New idea is mirena coil and oestrogen patch....

Any experiences?

OP posts:
teta · 04/05/2019 12:33

That would work Buffy.
No personal experience but my sister is happy on this.

Newgirls · 05/05/2019 19:32

I picked up everol conti 2 weeks ago from my local chemist via my gp so it does exist?

teta · 09/05/2019 21:12

Now my chemist says they are having issues with this. He’s given me two weeks worth of Evorel 25mg to tide me over.

princessTiasmum · 11/06/2019 16:53

This is still available as i have just been prescribed it,
So is femseven conti as Menopause matters says it isnt, my daughter is on these and our local chemist has plenty in
So is femosten conti

Jani6 · 17/07/2019 16:36

Hi I run out of Everyl conti trying to source it through Gp and Lloyd’s chemist after about 3 weeks without it I was eventually given Kliofem tablets which I’ve taken 3 so far but feel unsure about them as was so happy with the patches. Can anyone enlighten me whether these are a good dosage match to Everyl conti ?
