The NICE guidelines are not meant to take the place of consultants who make individual decisions. The article does say clearly that there is no black and white and there is conflicting evidence.
There are actually a couple of errors in the sidebars (written I think by Dr Ellie - no idea who she is.)
The feature has not been proof read by a menopause expert in my opinion.
1 Transdermal estrogen is NOT safer re cancer- there is NO evidence saying that at all. It is safer re blood clots.
2 There is no distinction in some of the 'advice' between progestogen and progesterone. Progesterone is ONE type of progestogen. They are not the same . Progestogens is an umbrella term and can include progesterone as well as all the synthetic progestogens.
The NICE guidelines are written by a panel of experts after years of consultation. I think the 2015 guide was 3 years in preparation. If you read the guidelines you can find the lists of experts consulted and the research papers referred to.
