@Jodill1980 no answer for you but just had blood tests done - have been experiencing symptoms for a few months - I just turned 39. :(

Its awful isn't it? I can see the results on my blood test online but can't figure out the readings. I have an appointment booked in to meet the GP on Monday next week to discuss. I do have a family history of early menopause so can't say i am surprised.

I now havent had a period in 2 months.

Emerald13 · 18/03/2019 21:54

I was in the same boat 2 years ago when I diagnosed with early Meno at 41. I had too severe symptoms and convinced that I had a terminal disease. Things will be better with time!

MrHaroldFry · 18/03/2019 22:33

It is rotten! I feel your discomfort.
However, your GP will offer advice and perhaps suggest HRT. I have transdermal patch and the effects were within about three days of me starting on them.
I am so glad we have a HRT option. I was miserable before.

WendyCope · 18/03/2019 22:39

I was 43. Take HRT, you need it for bone density, heart, skin and hair at this young age. Less risk than the pill.

Do a bit of research. I did loads.

I've got the gel, it's a pain to put on, but I too felt so much better after about 3 to 5 days!

Poor you, it's a real rollercoaster of emotions.

Blood tests won't really tell you much, it worries me that doctors think they will. Flowers

sproutsandparsnips · 18/03/2019 22:42

I was 38. Now 44. Couldn't get on with HRT due to discharge. So on nothing. Only issue flushes and anxiety.

AutumnNymph · 18/03/2019 22:43

@WendyCope it has bene truly awful the past few months - my brain feels like a bloody sieve and the insomnia is rotten.

From what I can make out of my blood results - GP said as i am under 40 they had to do it - my FSH and LH levels seems high and in the post menopausal bracket.

I am going to keep an eye and see if i can get an earlier appointment with the GP - I need something to make this better.

I have also managed to gain 2 kgs in a span of 3 weeks despite no change in diet or exercise.

WendyCope · 18/03/2019 22:48

Autumn all that rings a bell with me. I am thin but with a real beer belly now and nothing will fix it.

I see about blood tests, because you are so young.

Anxiety and insomnia are the worst for me, I notice if I forget my HRT for just a couple of days.

Jodill1980 · 19/03/2019 08:02

It's so great to be able to talk to other people going through the same
I have started HRT this week but was a bit scared with all the cancer talk surrounding it and now I have terrible headaches Angry
Have terrible mood swings and flushes are the worst ...... it's so good to talk to others who have the same issues don't feel so alone now

Geekster1963 · 19/03/2019 14:00

I started going through it at 40 and started HRT at 42 as the hot flushes, mood swings and permanent feeling of doom and gloom were becoming unbearable. They actually told me that I should be on it given my age to protect my bones and heart. They said I should be naturally having these hormones at this age and as such the risks of cancer and others connected to HRT don't apply at my age.

Within a week I felt a new person. I did have my dose put up after three months and it seems to be working fine, I've been on it four years now.

If after a month you don't feel better go back and see your GP as there are other types. I found the website menopause matters helpful and they have a forum too.

For me, hot flushes feel like prickly heat spreading through my body, usually starting in my chest and spreading out, often getting more uncomfortable to painful as it spreads before eventually fading. Hot flushes were what sent me to the doctors after months of horrible headaches and wonky periods. I was 28 when I went to the GP. They've gotten better though I still go through periods of having them often or where the slightest exertion seems to set them off.

Jodill1980 · 19/03/2019 20:26

@me33 I began having irregular periods sometimes spotting for a couple of days ,then really bad palpitations ,also I have always been someone who felt cold and all of a sudden I was having these unbearable waves of heat, the sweat would be running down my back that's when I went to my gp .I have been on HRT for 3 days and feel rubbish as I'm only 38 they said I have to take it to protect my bones hope this helps

MummyTo3Beauts · 19/03/2019 20:55

@Jodill1980
I have the same symptoms. My doctors will not listen to me! I already suffer from anxiety and take medication and they just keep telling me it's that and nothing else. Won't even do a blood test.
I was always cold but now I'm always hot, periods have gone from 28 days to 22-24, on for about 14 days, anxiety, palpitations, insomnia, when I do sleep I wake up in a sweat! Last time I went they gave me the pill so I wasn't on for as long as I already have anaemia. I don't know whether to take it or not

I'd missed four periods which was why I first went. I had a blood test done, then repeated a couple of weeks later. One of my hormone levels was sky high. My GP refered me to an endocrinologist because I was younger to make sure nothing else was going on (it wasn't).

They described it that my hormones were screaming at my ovaries to release an egg.

Jodill1980 · 20/03/2019 17:43

Hi @me33 yes I had several blood test all mine were high and yes have felt ill all week with HRT I'm hoping it will get better
@ MummyTo3Beauts demand a blood test they cannot refuse

OP posts:
AutumnNymph · 21/03/2019 13:31

saw my GP today and she said while I had all the symptoms and the FSH levels were high, she wants to do another blood test in a month and some more tests at the same time around cholesterol levels etc before referring me to a menopausal clinic.

The wait continues.

Jodill1980 · 21/03/2019 15:24

Been back to gp today and they have taken me off the HRT as I have been feeling so ill was wondering if anyone new of herbal remedies?
@AutumnNymph I had to wait in between blood tests to its harsh but got there in the end

OP posts:
AutumnNymph · 21/03/2019 16:02

@Jodill1980 glad to know it isn't just me. My GP is wonderful and I get what she is saying but its so tough to wait.

I am having terrible mood swings and am just so angry all the time! That coupled with insomnia isn't helping at all.

Sorry to hear the HRTs are making you feel worse. :(

ladygoingGaga · 26/03/2019 17:18

Newbie here, just had shock that at 40 I am post menopausal. I went to doctors 4/5 years ago with symptoms of night sweats but he put it down to stress,”.
I have been on Mirena for 10 years so had no periods anyway.
Feel strange now... need to go back to the doctors now to talk about HRT Shock
Any advice like others on supplements or vitamins that help naturally welcome

Baconislife · 26/03/2019 17:34

I was 36 am now 47.
Couldn't get on with HRT .
The night sweats were the worst.
Be kind to yourself.
Take time for yourself and if you need to test then do so

JinglingHellsBells · 26/03/2019 17:50

@Baconislife
If you never used HRT you ought to have your bone density checked now. It's possible you have low bone density and this is potentially very serious. Do ask your dr for a referral. Your menopause was a good 15 years early compared to the average and this does mean you were without estrogen (which bones need) for a long time.

JinglingHellsBells · 26/03/2019 17:52

@ladygoingGaga

NICE advice is HRT up to age 50ish at least to protect your heart function and bone density in the long term. Don't ignore this- it's serious stuff :) All you are doing is replacing what you ought to have- some drs compare it to adding in thyroxin or insulin in people who are deficient.

Baconislife · 26/03/2019 17:59

I have had it checked. And will continue to do so.
Thanks for the advice. It's always useful to mention things incase others haven't

beanaseireann · 26/03/2019 18:12

How long is the peri menopause supposed to be approximately ?
