menopause asthma - anyone else suddenly suffer?

In late perimenopause I've suddenly developed asthma and it's getting worse. GP (male) just prescribes Ventolin and Clenil.
Does anyone else suffer?
Any advice or tips on how to manage it? It's getting me down. I'm wheezing aorund like a much older person and it's starting to make me avoid exercise. I didn't go to yoga this week as it's a fast vipassana flow class and I knew I'd be the fat old wheezing woman at the back among all the lycra lovelies. I need to change my attitude to it. But struggling to.

I'd go back if you are still wheezing. It doesn't sound like your asthma is being managed effectively.

Thanks Julie.

Does no one else have this? I got the impression online that it's quite a common thing to happen.

I have suddenly developed a non productive cough, no wheezing but it gets worse with changes of temperature.
I don't know that it's asthma though?

I have had asthma most of my life. You do need to keep on top of it. I use the blue inhaler before exercise and if my asthma has worsened (eg if I have a cold), I will double-up on the brown inhaler. This is what my doctor advises. [Obviously, I will see the doctor if I need to and obviously, you need to seek medical help urgently if you have an attack that you can't control]. If you are unable to get an appointment quickly, tell the receptionist that it is re; asthma. If you haven't got a peak flow meter, get one (you can buy them at pharmacies).

Thank you misscocker - that's all really helpful advice. Didn't know about being able to buy a peak flow meter from the chemist.

I do use my blue inhaler before exercise (not that I do much, but I went swimming this morning and had to use it beforehand. Still wheezing in the pool but it eased off. )

Now wheezing at bedtime. Seems to be worse in the evenings.

Blimey, yes - me! My asthma has been terrible for weeks. Normally run 3 x a week but feel reluctant due to my asthma (totally unlike me). Is it related to menopause?! I am peri I think.
