Overwhelming rage on Elleste Duet 2mg

I’m 45 and have suffered from peri-menopausal symptoms for around 3 years now. I faced up to the facts and decided last year I needed to do something as the symptoms were taking over my life, brain fog and exhaustion to name but a few. I am on my first packet of Elleste Duet 2mg after changing from Evorel sequi patches, for various reasons, even tho I’m not particularly keen on taking tablets. The oestrogen pills were ok and I was actually starting to feel pretty good, better energy levels, more positive etc. Now I’m a week into the pill which also contains progesterone and I’ve turned into the devil woman!!! My poor DH doesn’t know what to do to try to make me happy as I’m consumed with a rage which is uncontrollable. I even shouted at my DS, 8, this evening for spilling his drink at dinner, which was completely unreasonable of me. I’m hoping someone will be able to reassure me that things will settle down once I get used to the pill.... Or maybe I could get some advice from all the knowledgeable ladies on here about a progesterone which might be a little “kinder”. I really can’t continue to be this monster for half of every month!!!! Please help!!!

I am having exactly the same problem only I am on the 1mg tablets. I have taken them for 3 months and if anything it's getting worse. I have booked in for a Mirena coil fitting because I actually cannot bring myself to take the progesterone containing Elleste tablets any more.

Oh dear...that’s not good news! I feel your pain! I know I’ve always had the odd day of “moodiness” but these feeling of rage are out of control. Good luck with the Mirena. I was offered it before I started HRT but I personally don’t like the thought of it... I’d like to think I could try an alternative progesterone first, but I guess I may have to come round to the idea if I can’t find anything that suits me. I would really like to see a Menopause specialist as I’m not convinced the GP is particularly “clued up” on the choices available.
Thanks for the info.

I tried elleste duet and sequi patches - no rage, but the progesterone made me have awful heavy painful periods - so bad they kept me awake for 3-4 nights per month and I bled for about 10 days. Flipping grim. I've given up for a while. I can't even face trying something else at the moment.

Maybe you can try a kinder progesterone as dydrogesterone in Femoston. It suits me better and I find it milder.

Maximoo2 · 06/03/2019 21:46

The pmt cramps on sequi were bad enough...not experienced it yet on Elleste but that sounds horrid. I’m trying to stay positive as I feel like the oestrogen has really helped. Maybe the norethisterone just doesn’t agree with me so I’ll look at Femoston. I did query the GP after having gone in to report the side effects I was struggling with, that she then suggested the same progesterone. She said as it was testosterone derived it was best for improving libido!?! It’s been gone a long time now & my DH is scared to come near me anyway in my state of rage!!! 👿

I had quite bad pmt on elleste 1mg. It went off after the first few months.

fishonabicycle · 07/03/2019 18:12

Thanks emerald - will make a note of that.

Femoston is worth a try. I think I'm fairly intolerant to progesterone (could never take the contraceptive pill because it made me severely depressed) but mood seems okay on Femoston. I do have bastarding heavy and painful periods on it though.

Good ole prempak (for all it's made from pregnant mares' piss) was fine, but it's no longer available. I miss it - much higher dose of oestrogen, the lower dose in Femoston means I still have one hot flush about 2.00am every night.

Maximoo2 · 07/03/2019 18:55

Thanks for the suggestion of femoston. I’ll do some research and arm myself with knowledge for the next time I see my GP.
