I think I might be peri-menopausal, now what?!

I am 38 soon to be 39. I started my periods when I was 10. My mum also started the menopause early and had a full hysterectomy by the age of 47.

Since having my youngest child almost 4 years ago, I've had problems with my periods becoming increasingly frequent and heavy. To the point where I was seriously anemic. Other symptoms I've had include really bad anxiety and terrible PMS. My hair and skin are shit, I'm always knackered etc.

I'd kind of put all of this down to having young kids, being anemic etc. My iron levels are better now and I do have more energy although everything else is the same. I've had ultrasounds that found no physical cause for my periods to be so heavy. I recently went back on the injection to stop my periods but my mood was even worse on it, so I've stopped it.

It was only in passing talking about it with my mum she mentioned that heavy periods were her first symptom of the menopause. So now I'm wondering if this is what's going on with me?

But what do I do now? What options do I have if it is the peri menopause? I'm afraid of taking HRT because of how bad I felt on the injection. Is there an alternative?

I used to have really heavy periods and PMS OP. The Mirena coil has been a life changer for me.

You need to go back to your GP and be referred to a gynae.

Has anyone suggested the Mirena coil or an ablation?

Have a read on the NHS site about treatments for heavy periods.

What have you had already- what was the injection?
