Hypertension, Hyperthyroid and Recently dumped divorced in that order....now it seems the menopause is around the corner. I was 12 days late therefore I have 12 days of extra womb lining that my stupid body wants to expel in a day! I'm going through a super plus tampon every couple of hours. I have to wear a pad too because when a tampon is full it's next to useless. Queue me running to the toilet in terror of leaving bid red patches everywhere. I had this last year where I bled like this for a month solid and I was only a week late...god knows how long this will last.

When is this shit gonna end??? Fucking perimenopause can do one.

Sorry for the rant - most RL people pull a face like a cat's arse if I try to complain about periods and I really needed to offload today.

My Mum (74) who I remember very well going through the same recently said to me "where the hell has this come from?" when I described my (absolutely debilitating) symptoms.
Ahh. Cheers Mum. I remember you being a total mess in your mid 40s when I was 20 / 21 years old. I may have put the phone down on her and she all of a sudden remembered how bloody awful it was and apologised.
Sorry you are going through all this shit. And it is shit. I started with symptoms last year. Was about to go on HRT but then discovered ridiculously high blood pressure. It's taken 5 months to sort that (including a delightful bout of Cellulitis caused by crap / cheap BP meds) and my hormones have levelled out again a bit it seems.
Trying to manage diet etc but it's literally like my body just Fucked me over, overnight.
GP said I can have HRT whenever I like. But for max 5 yrs. That's actually bullshit. According to current NHS guidelines you can have it for as long as you need it.
They will warn you of risks. But actually there are benefits too. Quite big benefits (assuming no history of breast cancer in family)
Don't put up with it. Seek help. First thing my GP offered was Anti depressants. Not helpful actually. At least not in my case.
We are all different. There are tons of symptoms with perimenopause. Some of us will have a few. Some lots.
Bottom line is, don't go it alone or be made to feel like you're just supposed to get on with it.
Look at megs menopause online.
Keep taking x

Talking, sorry.

Thanks for replying...I have a lot of the same symptoms when my thyroid goes into overdrive as I have Graves Disease so I'm ok with the hot flushes, anxiety, depression etc because I get that and about a hundred other symptoms when I flare up (the best thing is losing 2lbs a day eating whatever you want - the worse thing is you can't just leave it because it will kill you...it would just be my luck to lose 4 stone and cark it before I get into my first ever pair of skinny jeans) I did go to my GP last year in a mad panic about my month long monthly but to say they didn't give a shit was an understatement. I got "if it happens again call us". I will look in to HRT though thanks for the tips.

@Life
Sorry to hear all of this.

There are some very 'simple' ways of treating all of this.
1 Mirena coil
2 Ablation (cauterising the endometrium so it can't grow.)

Women with heavy periods can be offered either.

You can also take certain tablets before a period to help reduce blood loss and over the counter Naproxin is a short term measure (it's also in Feminax tablets.)

Don't suffer- see a good dr and ask for a referral to a gynae.

Meretricious · 18/02/2019 22:25

Go see the GP. Mine offered me HRT as a first option and said could consider Mirena or ablation. Hrt worked for me. Mirena for my sister,. Also had a blood test. Was v anemic which can make bleeding worse.

First gp was a bit useless so 8 asked the practice nurse which GP was best to see for menopause.

LifeImplosionImminent · 18/02/2019 23:17

Thank you both - I'm going to see if ibuprofen works from tomorrow and if I get another heavy one this year I'll go see about HRT or fitting a coil. I'm hoping it's another one off like last year...

HRT has literally changed my life - don't suffer, and good luck.

JinglingHellsBells · 19/02/2019 07:48

I'm a huge fan of HRT (used it for 11 years) BUT it won't necessarily help heavy periods when you are in peri. It will once you are further into peri help to re-set your cycles (you will get an HRT 'bleed' each month) but in peri you can end up with your own period kicking in and the HRT bleeds.

The Mirena is the answer if it suits you but everyone is different. If you were able to get on with the Mirena you can then add in estrogen-only to give you HRT because the Mirena acts as the progestogen part of HRT (which we all have to have if we have a uterus.)

Ask for help! Hrt is a lifesaver for me and it is the only way to continue my job and my life!
Hormones affect our whole body and especially our brain. I was almost suicidal 2 years ago with no history of clinical depression. Taking hrt everything is back to normal.
My only concern is about the time I will have to stop it...I want it for life!

LifeImplosionImminent · 19/02/2019 20:15

Blimey there's a lot to think about. Thanks for the advice everyone. I feel a bit better today.
