Hey everyone,

I'm new to this so please be gentle smile

Anyone else had the same problem, I'm 48 in July and my periods just stopped beginning of Dec. I have signs all month but nothing happens. I have a smear test due shortly and are starting to get a bit concerned as to if its something to worry about or am I starting the menopause I think my mum stopped about early 50's.

Can anyone advise me please.

Xx

I was 48 when I started going through the menopause. Go to your GP, I just had a blood test which confirmed it.

What is it you are worried about? Sorry I can’t help with the periods because mine stopped due to partial hysterectomy. Any other signs like brain fog, tiredness, aching joints, hot flushes, poor sleep, irritability or tearfulness? I don’t think blood tests are needed if menopause symptoms are clear but why not see your doctor.

I mean, are you worried they might have stopped for another reason, or because you expected it to be more gradual etc, or worried that it means meno - wasn’t meaning anything else, just wanting to clarify🙂

I was concerned it could be something else & also that I thought it may be more gradual too. I have been sweating at night but nothing major. I’m grumpy anyway lol :)

I'm not sure what you mean by 'gradual'?

The first sign of peri menopause is a missed period- that's what you have had.

What is happening to you is gradual!

You have missed one period, in January (and Decembers?)

This is what happens.

You might go 2 months with no period, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or even 11 months before you have another one.

You might have 2 in one month.

Anything can happen!

It's all normal.

What were you expecting?

And..the above pattern of stop-start, months with no periods, then a run of regular ones can go on for years.

I think you are assuming that 1 or 2 missed periods means you are now post menopause and they are all over.

For a very small number of women this can happen, but it's not common.
