Problems getting HRT medication

Is anyone else experiencing difficulties obtaining HRT medication? I can't get Elleste duet locally, no chemist can obtain it, and my GP says this is a nationwide problem. She is prescribing an alternative so I hope that is going to be available . Can't imagine going back to the state I was in before!

Elleste duet is just 2 mg estradiol , a very common HRT. There are several other brands of estradiol . Don't worry, you won't have to go back to suffering menopause symptoms, just take one of the alternatives.

Thank you for that reassurance, it has made me feel better, was starting to panic a bit!

I have just got my new prescription and it says Tridestra. I am now worried that also won't be available as there is another thread on here saying it is not currently being supplied. The Dr said if this is not in stock ask thepharmacist to recommend something - what would be good alternatives, any recommendations on here please?

Tridestra is completely different. It is along cycle, 3-month version.

Go to menopause matters website.
Look under HRT and you will find all the types.
You need to look for one that has the same estradiol dose and the same type of progestogen as you had (that is usually Norethisterone.)
Your GP ought to be able to prescribe both of these as separate items if there is an issue with a brand.

Thanks. It's stressful enough not being able to get medication that works for you to then have a doctor who does not know what to substitute it with. The table is very useful so I can ask the pharmacist about the other available options which are similar to Elleste.
