The period stopping bit

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 30/01/2019 17:58

I am peri, have had no not flushes but have had very heavy periods, terrible temper and a general feeling of cheapness as well as weight gain.
My usually clockwork like period has not arrived, no sore boobs ,headache, nothing.
Do they just go from monstrously heavy and then stop? Or is likely there will be longer gaps and lighter maybe?

Probably become erratic. Any relatives been through it...that can be a guide. Some people stop just like that my mate stopped for 11 months then started again (checked with go and all ok).

How old are you? I’m not hrt pushing, but it could well help with the feelings you describe.

I'm 51, my mum had a chemically induced menopause as she had cancer so I can't use her as a guide.

Mine just stopped out of the blue, no erratic cycles or heavy bleeding or anything beforehand. I had been feeling miserable, ancient and crappy but not sure whether it was hormonal or something else.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 31/01/2019 16:22

Please tell me you feel less miserable, ancient and crappy now?Smile

Mine have been erratic. My last "month" ended up being 6 months. I had all the usual pms symptoms in time for 4 weeks, later - guts, sleep, a spell of itchiness, headache, extremely unstable joints - and then nothing happened.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 31/01/2019 16:30

Mine are every 2-3 months now, been peri for about 5 years, lots of different symptoms over the years but periods regular until about a year ago.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 31/01/2019 16:41

Well if they are going to start getting erratic I hope I at least get some symptoms before hand and don't suddenly bleed heavily without warning.Confused

Mine were very erratic for a long time (but always had been anyway). Eventually there just wasn't another one. It's been well over two years for me now.

I'm into my fifth year of hot flushes, however, and my mother reports that she still has them in her 80s. I'll take that any day over menstruation. Delighted to see the back of it.

BlackInk · 31/01/2019 16:51

Ummm no, sorry Ihopeyourcakeisshit... but I'm not convinced it's menopause symptoms.

Dodie66 · 31/01/2019 16:57

Mine stopped then started again after af few months. I had a break of s year then bleeding so got it checked by the gp. I get hot flushes still and I’m 68

Catbot · 31/01/2019 17:00

Mine are ridiculous now. Two months of non-stop bleeding, sometimes super heavy, sometimes hardly anything. I'm fed up with it now. No other symptoms really.

RhubarbaraWindsor · 31/01/2019 17:09

Mine suddenly became much heavier for 2 or 3 months, and I was so paranoid about flooding. I had to go on a long flight and I wore a tampon and 3 panty-liners! Then they stopped, just like that. I had a couple more really light ones over the next 8 months or so, but no more 'proper' periods. I feel much less crappy and crabby now. Being post-menopause is great!

EngagedAgain · 31/01/2019 17:52

Mine was a gradual slow down. So boring. I have to see the funny side but I finished very late after well over 40 sodding years, and I think 1, we not long out of nappies, then 2, have decades of periods, then 3, before long it's tena ladies, and 4, incontinence pads. I envy men...

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/01/2019 18:03

Well this is timely! I was going to post asking about this myself! I have been perimenopausal for nearly a decade and have also had a baby during that time (I am 50 this year). Periods have been horrific. Long, heavy, then short, then endless spotting, irregular cycles. I last had a period that started a few days before Christmas, wasn't as heavy as normal but went on for about 8 days. Then spotting, minor spotting for around a week and a half after that. Absolutely nothing since, no bloating, no breast pain (the absolute bane of my adult life), no symptoms at all. I definitely should have had another one by now. I am wondering if this is the beginning of the end? It'll come tomorrow now I've said this Hmm

HellishBellish · 31/01/2019 18:47

I look forward to the day when I no longer get periods. I am buying Tampax on a need to have basis only.
