Will my memory come back?

My memory is absolutely shocking at the moment, I'm not stressed or overworked and so I'm blaming the menopause.
I've realised I'm developing all sorts of strategies but I'm still forgetting stuff daily.
My question is, is this a temporary phenomenon or permanent?
I'm 50, been peri for about 4 years and have had only 3 periods in 2 years

I guess it all depends on what you mean.
What's happening? Are you forgetting appts, things at work, meetings? Shopping? Names? Places?

It can be a meno symptom and if you have other symptoms later, HRT will help.

It is worth though thinking about- worst case- dementia. Sadly it can affect younger people especially if in the family.

You might like to go to the UK dementia support site and have a read about early signs, just to make yourself aware.

User, my GP told me that if she had a pound for every menopausal woman who went to see her and said they are either going mad or are scared they have dementia.....

Memory loss is very much a symptom of the M. I was with 3 good friends the other day, all separate. We all talked about each other (nicely) and I forgot the others names with every one I was with. So I was with A and forgot B & C's name. Then I was with B and forgot A's name, then with C and forgot A&B. It was really embarrassing. I don't think I have dementia. It's just part of the menopause.

I think that my memory loss at the beginning of my peri was due to my stress and my obsession about Meno.
I had no space in my head for thinking anything else except Menopause.
Memory is good again and my anxiety is over. It gets better.

Thanks, I'm not unduly stressed about the M as it's not too bad, I take StJohns Wort as I felt a bit anxious last summer but that's about it.
It's irritating more than anything else, I've also turned into Mrs Malaprop - always using the wrong words!!

Yes I noticed this and suddenly realise how much I'd taken for granted before. Mine has improved a little. I think we have more to think about now so perhaps it's more noticeable.

I had this too, so frustrating. I'd be OK at work but when I got home & relaxed I could barely remember the names of perfectly ordinary household items. DH & the DC got used to me saying 'Can you put the whatsit in the thingy, please,' and that sort of thing.

Anyway, I think my memory has improved lately, thank goodness. I have older friends who tell me the memory issues do get better once you are over the worst. I hope so.
