Is there anyway to stop the flushing?

I have had to come off hey awaiting a gynaereferal. The flushing and night sweats are back and worse than before. There are no triggersjust breathing seems to start one. They are non stop.
Is there anything that will help especially at work as their frequency and intensity makes concentration difficult.
I don't drink coffee,I do have wine but not atwork
What else can I try that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.?

I have got a spray can of iced water (89p from Home Bargain) and spray it on the back of my neck and my wrists - it's discreet, doesn't smell of anything and cools me down almost instantly. Worth a try and won't break the bank.

I have wet wipes in the fridges at work and use those, back of neck, down cleavage and forehead. This is great as it deals with the sweat but I am often doing something where I cannot stop.
The sleep deprivation from waking at night doesn't help.

It depends on why you had to stop HRT.

So many posts here from women who were given misinformation from GP. Some are told stop due to high blood pressure, migraine and similar.

The only reasons are breast cancer, a recent blood clot, severe liver disease or a heart attack.

There are plenty of herbs that might work for you but this will depend on why you have stopped HRT.

Black cohosh
phytoestrogens
Menopace
sage tincture
acupuncture

Why are you off HRT?

Op a friend of mine swears by a pair of magnets by menopace worn in your knickers, she was having relentless sweats all day and night and they have gone, it costs about £30-40

Hotterthanahotthing · 16/01/2019 14:06

I had a scan due to prolonged heavy bleeding on hrt,I have uterine endometrial thickening, with polyps .GP thought the bleeding was due to fibroids but I have had them for 15 years.I have a gynaecologist referral but until I'm seen and treated no HRT.

Are you peri menopause or post?

If peri it's likely your own estrogen is kicking in as well.

IME there is no need to stop HRT for such a short time. It's highly unlikely that in the short term of a few weeks (?) anything would go wrong.

What dose and type were you on?

JinglingHellsBells · 16/01/2019 14:17

The magnet in your knickers is a load of codswallop- the British Menopause Society has looked at this and their opinion is it's useless.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/01/2019 14:20

Just to say OP not trying to diagnose you or suggest you carried on but only that it seems a very 'tough' call from your GP .

It could simply be that you are not getting enough progestogen each month and / or need a lower dose of estrogen.

Prob needs nothing more than a tweak to your HRT- maybe the Mirena coil would suit you along with estrogen patch /gel- thats a common regime for bleeding issues. Again it is something a good GP ought to know about and sort.

Hotterthanahotthing · 16/01/2019 14:33

I was on the gel and utogestan.Had a month of a HRT tablet form to see if that worked but the resultant bleed at the end was awful. It was so heavy I had to have a few weeks off work and then more gently for a month.Ihadthe scan at the end of the heavy bleed.
I'm 58 was peri 18 months ago when I started HRT so now not sure.

Sounds as if you had a late menopause if you were still having periods at 56. Were they getting irregular by then?
Guess you will be through it now.

The treatment for the lining will be either the Mirena or Norethisterone if it's simply thickened with no abnormalities.

Hope you get on okay.

Maybe try sage tablets/ tincture now to see if that helps? Or black cohosh?

victoriahaviland · 16/01/2019 17:02

i had a hot flush for 10 secs 12 months ago - was that it, am i done? i am 48. (i have zero libido - how can i get this to come back - i still want children. desperado like, i wont be able to live without being a mum

Hotterthanahotthing · 16/01/2019 22:51

I've ordered sage tabs.I have endometrial polyps too.
My periods were regular,v heavy and ongoing was having a week not bleeding. The Merina is not an option until I have seen gynaecologist.
I am also getting fed up of the iron tablets have been on these for ages but they have done their job but I'm still a bit anaemic after the last big bleed.

It might be coincidence, but my mild flushes reduced considerably within a couple of weeks of starting to take Menopace.

starzig · 16/01/2019 22:59

Reduce sugar works for me. Some people swear cutting out dairy helps too.

Hotterthanahotthing · 16/01/2019 23:00

Black cohosh is contraindicated because of the fibroids and endometrial polyps.
