Will the bleeding ever stop?!

I am 43 and since last summer my cycles have been all over the place. In December my period arrived 6 weeks late...and forgot to stop. After two weeks of flooding, horrendous clots and unending bleeding the GP prescribed northisterone.

That worked like a charm and I took for the 10 days as instructed. Unsurprisingly after I stopped the pills my bleeding came back exactly as before. It's been a week and shows no signs of stopping. I started the northisterone again but it's not working.

Am I going to bleed forever?! I've had blood tests done for hormone and thyroid levels and get the results next week.

I think I need to go back to the GP again, especially if I'm going to just keep bleeding.

Anyone else been through this?

Yes, I went through that in my mid-40s, that's the perimenopause for you. Miserable isn't it? I know it's not for everyone but the solution for me was the Mirena coil. I haven't had a period since. It's been life changing. But definitely go back to the GP.

I've made an appointment for the start of next week when my bloods should be back. I've never liked the idea of a coil, gives me the heebiejeebies but if this carries on I might change my mind.

Think I should have shares in sanitary products after all this!

Yes. I got so anaemic I could barely function. My ferritin was 3.
I got a mirena coil and never had a bleed again.
The tablets gave me awful headaches so I was really glad to get the mirena.
I won't lie, it was pretty unpleasant getting it put in, but I had an early menopause and had a f/t job and 3 dc, the youngest of whom was 2 years old and I honestly thought I was just going to keel over and die.
So definitely worth it IMO.

I didn't like the idea of a coil either, but oh the relief when I got one! Took a couple of months to settle down, but since then it's been brilliant. I had mine put in under GA because there was another gynae thing that needed doing so no experience of having it put in.

TwoGinScentedTears · 06/01/2019 16:16

No experience here, but I'm approaching 40 so taking Loren interest in peri/meno stuff.

Are you sure this is a meno symptom? I just can't help but think if men bled like this for days and weeks there'd be more urgency/tests run to check there isn't something else going on. Sounds awful for you.

I might be wide of the mark. I am not looking forward to the menopause at all.

BloomsButtons · 06/01/2019 16:51

TwoGin the GP didn't seem too worried when I saw him before Christmas and I have a family history of 'early' menopause, in fact I'm quite late in comparison!

The bleeding is so annoying and if I flood it's not always easy to get to the loo in a hurry during the working day.

Anaemia seemed to be my doctors main concern, he's also testing my thyroid to see if that's an issue.

Northisterone is definitely not working this time . Bleeding it is then Hmm.

Sorry to resurrect my thread again.

I'm now on day 10 of bleeding. Again. In the last 37 days I have bled for 24 of them. I am beginning to feel very tired and am completely pissed off with this whole 'owning a womb' thing. How much endometrium is there for me to lose?!

I'm seeing my GP on Monday, it can't come quick enough!

Mirena coil here for me too, total life saver, went from flooding never ending periods and severe anemia to no periods at all for the last two years, best invention ever.

Beth45red · 16/01/2019 10:46

I've gone from 30 day cycles to 42 days, and from heavy painful periods which I had for years and was diagnosed with fibroids to now longer and generally lighter, mostly spotting with odd instance of flooding for few mins and then nothing for 24 hours. Now on day 20. Seen Gp today and she wasn't remotely concerned about long bleeding, offered mirena coil. I've had copper before and always felt uncomfortable like it was pulling me down on the inside even though it was checked. I'm reluctant to have another coil so have got another 6 months supply of cerelle. Will see how it goes a bit longer, may go for coil in the end, depends if bleeding changes again in next couple of months.
