HRT and migraines

Hello, I wonder if I could have your opinions before I see my GP next week. I'm 56 and have been taking Femoston conti 0.5/2.5 for a year now.

All been good, no side effects until recently. The past two months I've had three migraines. No aura but horrible all day migraines, which are like the ones I had occasionally when I was younger. I'm thinking these are probably hormone related and that my GP will suggest I change or stop the HRT? I know some of you are very knowledgeable about HRT and would appreciate your thoughts. I'm fit, good blood pressure, not overweight and healthy apart from this! Thank you.

I have a few migraines on Femoston too, cyclical type but my gyn said it is ok to take it. I have no contradictions, my blood pressure is ok, so I think that it is safe.

Migraine is not a contraindication to HRT. The Migraine Trust has good info on their site on this.

The type you are taking is an extremely low dose of estrogen 0.25mgs

It may be that now you are further into menopause, you need a higher dose because your own estrogen levels will have fallen. You might want 1mg or even 2mgs.

It might be best to think about a transdermal type too (patches or gel) because they don't have added risk of blood clots.
