Has anyone experienced development of tinnitus that coincided with onset of menopause?

No, I didn't.
See the GP. Just because two things happen at the same time doesn't mean they are related.

TeacupDrama · 19/11/2018 23:37

I have tinnitus but not the menopause they aren't related but if you have hearing problem you are more likely to have tinnitus

roseenglish1969 · 20/11/2018 11:56

I have it on and off for years
Anxiety brings it on
I’m currently in a low place now and had it for 6 weeks, since the low mood started.

Yes! I've noticed it badly for the last couple of months and I seem to be having lots of menopausal symptoms at the moment & have been for a few months now. Not sure if the two are conected but I'm sure I've read somewhere that it can be a symptom. Anyway - have booked a drs appt to talk about both!

Vitalogy · 20/11/2018 18:47

Yes, I noticed it too. I've yet to get it checked out at the hospital. Must be going on for over a year now.

SummerbodyIwish · 20/11/2018 23:04

Thanks for replies. Have made a GP appointment

Oh yes! It's been about three years now but now know it is linked to poor sleep. When I sleep better and am more relaxed it's either gone or hardly present. A few bad night sleep in a raw and stressful days and it goes mad and then of course its a vicious circle!

Hormonecure · 30/11/2018 18:51

Yes! I'm sure mine is linked to hormonal imbalances in menopause. It comes and goes. Is yours very bad?

swingofthings · 01/12/2018 06:51

There have been time when it was bad enough to actually wake me up. It made me feel horrible. Also linked with feeling dizzy and lightheaded which led to being refereed to ENT as suspicion of Menieres disease.

I'm not as stressed as used to be so it's now tolerable. A friend of mine suffered with it along with loss of hearing but it disappeared fully when the worse of the menopause was over so hopefully the same for us!

SummerbodyIwish · 02/12/2018 15:27

Thanks for the replies . I too have some hearing loss along with the tinnitus that is there all the time. Maybe it will improve when menopause is done

Tinnitus IS a symptom of the menopause. I've literally just been doing a Q&A on this with a doctor and she lists it as an unknown symptom.

Hormonecure · 04/12/2018 12:35

That's really interested @FiftySense. Does that mean once you're through the menopause, it corrects itself? What about if you're on HRT?

thefirstmrsdewinter · 04/12/2018 13:13

Mine has improved with b12 injections.

Hormonecure · 04/12/2018 13:33

My B12 levels are really good...

Gerijrich · 04/12/2018 14:56

Hi it's about increased blood flow when uptight it rushes through your ears

Hormonecure · 04/12/2018 15:21

@Gerjijrich - that's to do with a particular type of tinnitus, pulsatile tinnitus, which is less common

FiftySense · 04/12/2018 16:54

@Hormonecure If it's a symptom, then it should clear up. Hopefully HRT will do the job!

swingofthings · 07/12/2018 07:20

Mine is probably caused by very low blood pressure. My low BP is probably due to the hormones shift. I had it quite badly during pregnancy too. Low BP especially when lying down means less blood flowing into the brain hence tinnitus.

Increasing water intake and reducing caffeine means more blood floating around so more going to the brain. Dehydration due to hot flushes/night sweat with some menopausal women reducing fluids due to weaker bladder is common.
