I've done the right thing and gone to the GP. She took blood and I've to go back next week for the full works. Thing is, it FEELS like a period. So worried. Any advice?

Has she arranged for you to have a scan?

How old are you?

Ask for a gynaecologist review

You should be referred to a gynae consultant for a scan and hysteroscopy to check the lining of the womb. Good luck Flowers

1 Why have you not had a period for 4 years? Are you late 40s, in your 50s or had a premature menopause in your 30s?

2 If you have had a normal menopause ( age late 40s- mid 50s) and this is a new bleed, the rule your GP has to follow is an urgent 2-week referral to a gynaecologist for a pelvic scan. The 2-week referral rule is to check for cancer.

You need to go back- fast- and ask for this. It may be nothing but worst case, it needs checking as soon as possible.

I'm 46. Only had a handful of periods from 38 to 42 and nothing since. Blood test from a few years ago showed it was menopause.

42 is considered an early menopause and most menopause specialists would have put you on HRT as medical treatment to protect your heart and bones in the longer term, even without menopause symptoms like flushes, moods, sweats.

You should still consider this now- do some reading about risks of early menopause.

The ovaries can reactivate themselves in younger women who have early menopause, but you ought to have a scan which will also show if you have any ovarian activity .

Queen - that's what the GP said yesterday, that I should have been on supplements. Blood tests yesterday were for thyroid, hormone levels and tumour marker.

My mum started bleeding when she was in her 60’s (after 20+ years of no periods) she had polyps which were removed and she’s ok now.
