All symptoms pointing to Peri but tests not helping

I have terrible pms, headaches, nausea, palpitations and racing heart, insomnia, hot flushes a lot of the time now and I've been to the doc so many times. Periods have been a bit irregular with an extra one here and there so I had blood tests and ultrasound. All fine. So what do I do now? I'll go back to the GP but I don't know what to do. I don't know myself anymore and spend more time of the month feeling rubbish than not. I'm 43 in a couple of weeks and mum and sister were through meno by 45.
Any advice please?

The rule is to treat the symptoms. At 42 the treatment is HRT to protect your bone and heart health in the future. Ask your GP for it or ask for a referral to a menopause specialist if your GP can't help you.

I think that you will need hrt. If your symptoms affect the quality of your life ask for help. I am 42 and a year on hrt. If your GP doesn’t help, try to find someone who knows better and cares.

Really? Do people ‘need’ HRT? I am 48 and in peri menopause but have not felt the need to go to the doctor. Should I ask for HRT too? Just because I need to protect my heart and bones.

@icouldbewrongicouldberight

I'm 43 in a couple of weeks and mum and sister were through meno by 45.

It's an age thing.

Menopause before 45 is classed as early. HRT is medical advice. Many specialists recommend it for women whose periods stop before 47 (this doesn't always mean peri- it means periods stopped.)

icouldbewrongicouldberight · 10/11/2018 22:31

Ah ok, so only necessary to protect the heart and bones if not old when it happens?

MummaPI · 10/11/2018 23:26

Thanks all
emerald can I ask what you take please? I don't have a good understanding of hrt

Also what if I don't go through the me on by 45? Is it ok to take hrt anyway?

I could of write this, I don't know what normal is anymore, been feeling rubbish for ages and keep going docs, they shake their head saying too young for menopause or they just don't want to know and send me for tests but I'm 44 and having hot flushes at night not the soaking ones just burning skin which causes insomnia, headaches all day every day, sore limbs like I've been exercising and got the day after feeling. Irregular periods and now starting with low BP and dizziness (another thread). I'm sick of it all Sad

MummaPI · 11/11/2018 13:15

Sorry to hear that marvel but I totally understand how you feel

If you have symptoms that are ruining your life, you have to be a bit more pushy and ask for HRT.
It's ridiculous to say 44 is too young; meno can be from 45- 55 (this is well documented.) And peri can last a few years so 44 is not too young at all. Stupid GPs- most know nothing about meno.
Ask for HRT and if they can't help, find one who can.

I feel that I’m behind on my understanding of hrt and menopause. Does anyone know any good resources with up to date research ?
I’m 52 still bleeding and feel like shot most of the time. My instinct is to do things naturally, but that could be prejudice, so I’d like to educate myself more.

lottiebear69 · 11/11/2018 19:27

Icouldbewrongicoyld be right that’s really not very helpful comments to op
You may be lucky and not having the debilitating symptoms she has. Most people would prefer to do things naturally but when it’s sffecting someone’s quality of life surely it’s better to try replacing the hormones that are diminishing rather than suffering in silence
