Does anyone else suffer from this? As soon as I go to bed, on my scalp, back, and all over my body itching. I don’t have hot baths and use an unperfumed moisturiser.

I get the itching all over most evenings as soon as I get to bed. It has eased slightly since being on HRT. I also have the scalp itching. I try and moisturise in the evening and wash my hair more frequently. It doesn’t need washing but just helps the urge to itch. It has affected my sleep sometimes I feel raised bumps on my skin too. I feel your pain.

OneFootintheRave · 13/11/2018 21:22

My god, I'm sitting in bed thinking this is me! I've always been a bit itchy but since meno it's gone into overdrive. My scalp is appalling too. The only shampoo that ever worked was the orange and blue bottle L'Oréal Elvive but it seems to be discontinued.

I've been taking daily antihistamine and scratching my body with a bristle brush. Will be using cortisone cream sparingly soon. It's misery.

Aroundtheworldandback · 14/11/2018 16:11

I may be way off the mark but it doesn’t feel like it’s coming from dry skin- feels like it’s coming from nerves under skin. How would you put quartizone on your scalp anyway?

Maybe small doses of antihistamine’s the way to go. I keep a sharp hairbrush next to my bed.. horrible.

I was fine before I wrote that post but even writing it made me itch !!!

I had this on my back and front shins for about 10 days before my period started. E45 or a really thick body butter helped during the day but getting under covers always set my back off when going to bed.

HRT has helped massively although i do still get itchy, raised bumps on my arms and upper back on the 4th patch of estrogen. As soon as i have the dual patch on, it goes within 24 hours. I am on Evorel Sequi patches for past 4 months, I am 47 in 4 months and it is getting better each month.

My purple back scratcher is still by the side of my bed though!!

Aroundtheworldandback · 14/11/2018 19:47

I’m just wondering why getting into bed makes it worse?

I already suffer from Hives which make me itch like crazy. Take antihistamines daily for this. Read that perimenopause symptoms include itching, feeling like crawling insects under your skin (as well as intolerance to current medication for such things) so definitely feel your pain. Unfortunately, just as I was being prescribed HRT for my symptoms last night, I discovered my BP was 220/110 so now on meds for that and having ECG on Monday. When my BP is under control, I can have the HRT.

sheldonstwin · 14/11/2018 20:54

I had terrible itching too when I started the menopause. I also developed rampant dandruff which I had never had before (oh the joys of getting older). I used to itch so badly under my arms that I scratched them red raw at night and I couldn't use antiperspirant in the mornings for about a year. Since being on HRT my underarms have stopped itching and my dandruff isn't as bad, either. I just have the occasional itchy back of the neck, now.

Unfortunately I’m on hrt.. can only imagine what it’d be like without it!!

I came here tonight to post about itching.

I'm 48 with no other symptoms. Periods as regular as they every were but omg the itching. My neck and chest all the time but worse at night and when I first wake up. Also, to a lesser extent, head and face

So is this it? And what do I do?

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/11/2018 21:43

Yes! Particularly my hands!

Waspnest · 26/11/2018 17:06

Did anyone find the cause of their itching?

Bestseller My itching is also worse first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I am currently veering between thinking I have either anaemia (very heavy perimenopausal periods), lymphoma (glands also seem swollen) and coffee intolerance! I definitely have a problem with coffee (suffered from bad reflux once which cleared up when I had a break from it) so should ditch that and am booking an appointment for blood tests.

AgentProvocateur · 26/11/2018 17:16

I posted (an unanswered!) thread about really bad thrush a week or so ago. It was so bad, I went to gp, and she thinks it’s meno related. It’s my vulva and the tops of my thighs, especially at night. I’m sctratching till I bleed.

I also have high BP (controlled by medication) and I live in a country with no HRT, so the most I can get is oestrogen pessaries. I’m waiting for a call from GP to see if my insurance will cover this

But I’m glad I’ve found my itchy tribe here! I thought I would go insane.

Waspnest · 26/11/2018 17:22

Mine is my scalp and neck. I want to dye my hair and get it cut but can't risk it (shaving it all off is becoming more and more tempting...) You have my sympathies, it's bad enough explaining to people it's definitely not nits and scabies (according to GP), explaining itchy nether regions might push me over the edge

mirren3 · 26/11/2018 17:55

Yes, I'm well past the menopause, had it early and am still on 25mg prescribed anti histamine daily. If I forget it's awful, I also have pretty bad insomnia and the anti histamine is supposed to make you sleepy....Me? no chance.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/11/2018 23:53

Does anyone else Find it's a moving itch. As in I scratch and then it pops up somewhere else?

MrsEricBana · 27/11/2018 00:00

Oh I'm SO pleased to have found this thread. The itching on my back is unbearable sometimes. I find suitable objects to poke up the back of my jumper, favourite being a lidded biro. All very, literally, irritating. Antihistamines didn't really help, nor a mentholated cream from GP. Bloods clear. Only thing that helps is Aveeno daily moisturising creamy oil and need to persuade a family member to put it on so not ideal. Sympathies all.

Jasonmendoza · 29/11/2018 21:10

I went through years of itching as soon as I tried to go to sleep. It stopped when I gave up sugar. No cakes, chocolate, biscuits. Feel so much better.

Waspnest · 17/12/2018 16:02

Greetings itchy people.

So I went to the doctor, who prescribed corticosteroid cream for my scalp and okayed blood tests. It turns out I'm quite anaemic (probably due to heavy periods) so my GP prescribed iron tablets and the mini pill and touch wood after a week of iron my itching has mostly gone (only itch when I think about it and even then it's not an overwhelming urge).

Maybe that

Waspnest · 17/12/2018 16:03

Dunno where that last bit came from!

Sethos · 17/12/2018 16:31

It's worse in bed because of the heat, I think.

Itching like a lot of you are describing should be reported to your GP so they can do a blood test to check your liver and kidney function, and whether you're anaemic. Itching, especially a 'crawling' sensation like ants under the skin, can be due to liver issues.

Waspnest · 17/12/2018 16:50

Yes I agree, my bloods involved tests for liver, kidneys, thyroid etc. and all those were fine.

MummaPI · 23/12/2018 22:51

God this is weird, I've been worried about my itching this week as it seems to have come from nowhere. The front and back of my neck are driving me mad. It itches but it also feels like a burning feeling. Like pins and needles. Nothing seems to be helping and I had wondered if it was hormonal and then I read this thread.
