It is not licensed in the UK for vaginal use but is everywhere else in Europe where it's vaginal use first/ oral use not so much.

The capsule is the same. I am 'allowed' to use it any way I want as my HRT is private and my dr is happy for me to do either.

You don't need tell your GP which way you use it- just do it. Loads of women use it vaginally- there is a long support thread on Menopause matters forum on using Utrogestan.

I was prescribed it by my private meno specialist and she said I could use it vaginally if I preferred. I didn’t get on with it and decided to go with the Mirena instead though.

My gynaecologist and GP both prefer to use the Mirena but I wanted the vaginal progesterone so tried it and hated inserting it, remembering it etc. I gave in and had the Mirena and it's great. Much easier to just have it there and forget about it for 8 years!

yumsy if you have a Mirena for HRT you need to have it replaced every 4 years, who told you it was 8?

Utrogestan 200 mg is prescribed vaginally for fertility - licensed. Exactly the same product is used for HRT - now only available as 100 mg capsules. Same product can be used orally or vaginally. Has your doc not heard of the product at all or its use as HRT or its use vaginally? It may be listed in the book as "micronised progesterone" which is the generic name - although in practice only Utrogestan is available in this form for HRT (maybe at all?).

Had mirena 4 yrs and wanted to have control of progesterone rather than mirena where you have it all the time. Gp had not heard of it vaginally

Most GPs won't have as it's not licensed for that in the UK but most private consultants are aware of how the rest of the world works re. Utrogestan and leave it to the patient to choose.
