Can anyone share their positive experiences of Femoston for cyclical HRT? (oh go on then, negative too...)

Just started taking Femoston - literally just started; first pill a few minutes ago. Am nervous about what to expect. Obviously I want everything to be positive! Being realistic though I realise that's not necessarily going to be the case. I'm scared of weight gain, bloating...heaps of stuff. But I just couldn't carry on like this any more.

Does anyone have any positive experiences of this HRT? Don't suppose it gives you extra energy, does it??? desperate

I'm on elleste 1mg and I don't have hot flushes any more. I think my mood is slightly better. Sleeping slightly better and don't seem to be so achey.

Amammi · 27/10/2018 20:11

I have found it good - using it 6 months now - used to have terrible aches and pains and very poor quality sleep. Both wereresolved and I feel much more my normal self.

FermatsTheorem · 27/10/2018 20:12

I'm on femoston - seems to work fine for me, no adverse effects. I started off on prempak which is no longer available, and far from causing bloating, actually the improvement in my mood meant I was able to lose the weight I'd put on with the start of the perimenopause.

It doesn't give you extra energy, it returns you to normal - so if peri was sapping your energy (which it was for me) it will make you feel like a new woman. Just getting rid of the disturbed sleep was amazing.

However, it's not instant. It took me about a month to start feeling the full effect.

Thanks for the swift responses. Fermats - I've almost forgotton what 'normal' is as regards energy! Fingers crossed it does indeed help with sleep issues, that would be a great start.

I am on Femoston 2/10 for about a year with no side effects.
I have no symptoms, good libido, no weight gain, perfect skin. A bit water retainsion but I’m not sure if it is due to hrt or my diet.
I feel like my old self again.
I missed a few periods on it but my gyn said me not to worry at all. Hope it helps! :)

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 27/10/2018 23:07

Emerald13 Interesting that you missed a few periods, as I'm supposed to have a bleed on this, a bit like the pill. A bit concerned about the irregular bleeding that may happen, but again, will have to wait and see.

Some positive experiences here.

Is femoston better than elleste?

Emerald13 · 28/10/2018 06:27

Blarney dydrogesterone in Femoston is considered safer than norethisterone in Elleste but with no big difference. If it suits you better stay on it.

FermatsTheorem · 28/10/2018 07:46

Actually the mentions of periods reminds me: the only downside I've experienced with femoston is worse period cramps than I had on prempak or prior to menopause.

Discoisabelle · 28/10/2018 17:55

I have been prescribed 2/10mg + 1/10mg Femoston, so i take 2 pills each evening after a review with menopause doctor , i was happy on the 2/10mg for a year then symptoms started returning so she upped my dose, i am super happy with it, energy great, sleep perfect, great mood, my hair and skin are definitely thriving, no flushes, missing a few periods every now and then but had scan to check for anything, was reassured it happens to a lot of ladies so no concern at all. Femoston has been brilliant for me so far and i intend to keep taking it for as long as i can. I still remember how awful i felt before HRT and i am not going back there.

FermatsTheorem · 28/10/2018 19:09

Ooh, that's really interesting Disco. I hadn't thought of 2 pills a day. I'm finding Femoston has a lower dosage of the oestrogen-like hormone than Prempak, and doesn't work completely. In the summer I typically wake up once with a hot turn at about 3.00am (nowhere near as bad as the "wake up after an hour with a hot flush, kick the covers off, wake off an hour later too cold, pull them back on, wake up an hour later with another hot flush..." cycle prior to treatment, but still annoying). My energy levels are also a bit low. Which reminds me - I must make my appointment with the GP for my annual review.

Minxy100 · 30/05/2023 19:58

I was prescribed Femoston and it worked wonders for me!

BACKSTORY
I was incorrectly diagnosed as depressed and given anti-depressants for two years when it was really peri menopause symptoms.

I was in a daily nightmare of hot flushes, insomnia, vastly varying mood swings (sometimes within nano-seconds), to the point that my family actually asked if I was bi-polar!?! The brain fog was immense and I just couldn’t function & operate as usual. My periods were excruciatingly painful - to a point where taking the maximum allowed ‘Feminax’ wasn’t working and I’d find myself incapacitated in bed! Often, also having some ‘self-medication’ of wine to just try and take the edge of the pain enough to make it bearable.

DIAGNOSIS
I saw a female GP at my surgery. After jumping through a number of frustrating months of few thorough hoops in terms of blood tests, ‘lady bits’ health checks etc., she was finally happy to put me on HRT. I recall that she said, ‘if it is peri menopause you will notice quite quickly’.

RESULT
She wasn’t wrong!! Within 3-4 days my brain fog was gone. A huge weight had gone and I really felt human again! All the pain & cramps ceased. In short, all of the symptoms disappeared. Not, I would add, at the same time. HRT doesn’t work instantly but builds over time. The full effects are usually felt 4-5 months down the line (IF…you are on the right one for you). I clearly was - my skin was glowing, my hair stopped falling out/thinning and looked good. Someone remarked that I had turned into Benjamin Button! Femoston gave me my life back at a point where I was questioning my sanity.

Emerald13 · 30/05/2023 23:05

I am on Femoston 5 years now and everything is fine. I had also no idea that I was at peri and started at 42. No problems at all!

Emma5773 · 27/06/2023 06:29

This has literally been a life saver for me. I entered menopause at the same time as my eldest son had a brain tumour and my husband had a breakdown. I had to care for both of them, while working full-time. Femoston Conti made me feel like me again, giving me the strength to get through this - healthexpress.co.uk/femoston
