54 and periods still as regular as clockwork.

I've just had my 54th birthday but my periods are still as regular as when I was 15. In my early 40's I had a Mirena fitted because of heavy periods.
Gynea removed it when I was 50 because she assumed I must be menopausal by now.
Well I wasn't...and now have regular periods although luckily not as heavy as what they were 10 years ago.
Should I get another coil fitted or just hope that they will stop soon?
Not had any hot flushes and luckily DH had a vasectomy many years ago so we don't have to worry about contraception.
Can't really talk to my friends about it as they've all been through menopause already.GP just said they will stop at some point. Not much help really.
Anybody else out there still having periods in mid-fifties?

If your periods aren't too heavy, why bother having a coil?
You're not alone, a friend of mine reached the menopause at 56 and didn't have any awful perimenopausal symptoms, only the odd flush. I hope it will be the same for you.

TBF I think you're right. I should have maybe done that sooner. Just kept putting off having another one fitted because I thought it would have all finished by now.
Have been lucky not to have been hassled by hot flushes but I do get 'hot' feet in bed which also keeps me awake.
Think I'll just have to ride it out until it all comes to end sooner or later.
Hoping for sooner.

I'm 58 and mine ,after being horrendously heavy just changed to being just less last year.I started get as I do get flushes, was finding concentration difficult, aching joints all made worse by lack of sleep.
Things should either start or not for you at some point, you already have hot nights.
So it us not unusual that at 54 to have regular periods ,just annoying with the meno pause to look forward too.

the only word of warning is that if your periods carry on and on , and are not regular, you need to have it checked out. Sadly some women who have 'odd' periods in their late 50s do not realise it could be something more serious and not 'normal ' periods.

I am definitely regular and am aware of risks of bleeding after menopause. Just dreading the thought of it going on for another few years. Think I might go down the route of getting another Mirena fitted.

50 here and still having periods but I had a child at 38 so maybe why. Mine have changed a bit but not significantly, still get terrible period pains every so often and all associated "javelin arse" and shaky legs, back ache and feeling over tired. Was going to leave it for a bit as just gone onto metformin which may change things as well.

52 and still having a period every 28 days on the dot. I too get hot at night, but nothing else. They are heavier than they used to be, but only last 3 days, so not complaining. Also I had an ovary removed several years ago, so only running on one, but it has made no difference to my periods at all.

Thank you ladies. Keeping fingers crossed that they will stop sooner rather than later. At least not as heavy as used to be.
