Really need to do something to help myself it started after I turned 40
Never had problems in that dept I have taken the odd senna tea or senokot it used to just be in my PMT 10 days but now it seems to be all the time and it really hurts when I eventually do go

My diets pretty healthy but is there something I should take daily that isn’t as extreme as a laxative that could help?

Maybe go to GP for a full blood count and general well-woman check?

I am sluggish of bowel and have always found these helpful:

Plenty water too!

any chance you are underestimating the amount of fibre you have each day? Recommended amount is around 30 gms. There are tables online showing how much in each fruit/ veg/ cereals.

www.nutrition.org.uk/healthyliving/basics/fibre.html

Unless you are getting your 5 /6 a day and some wholegrains, it's likely you aren't getting enough.

You also need to drink at least 1.5ltrs water each day and ^move' because being inactive causes the bowel to be sluggish too- 30 mins walking at least a day.

I’m definitely covering the water and walking but will look at fibre intake

Are you taking iron, maybe in your multivitamins? I'm having to take it and it REALLY jams up the works!

Also I read bananas and eggs can slow your bowels down.

I drink Slimma Tea when I need a good clear out 😆

If your bowel habits have changed for no apparent reason a trip to your gp is advisable.

Mine have changed as a known side effect to 2 different medications In recently started. I've just increased my fruit and veg intake

I think it's an old wives tale about eggs- it's the hens that get 'egg bound' not humans :) And bananas are high in fibre.

OP if you are blocked up, increase the fibre, eat nuts, prunes, plenty of greens like broccoli, carrots and other root veg, wholemeal bread and pasta, brown rice, ON A DAILY BASIS :)

You should have 5-6 portions fruit and veg (mainly veg) and at least 2 servings of wholefood cereals , pulses or brown rice a day.
