MIRENA COIL - EXPERIENCES GOOD BAD AND UGLY PLEASE!

I'm thinking about having a Mirena Coil inserted. I'm 49 and very peri menopausal, have been using HRT patches which work great but am now in a new relationship so needing birth control. The GP has recommended the Mirena along with HRT gel (can't remember which hormone is in the gel) and I am quite keen but my worries are:

  1. Is it hideous having it put in? I've had two C sections so my cervix hasn't ever properly dilated - is that likely to make it more uncomfortable?
  2. Is it uncomfortable once it's in? I've heard it can be
  3. Does it affect ones sex drive? Again I've heard it can, and can also make you put on weight
  4. Does it effectively deal with perimeno symptoms, night sweats, hair loss etc etc

Be so grateful to hear anyone's experiences of this - thank you! Smile

I use the Mirena, with Estrogel ( estrogen) to deal with the meno symptoms.
I found it slightly uncomfortable having it put it but not a lot worse than a smear, but I have had vaginal births and only one CS.
I had some cramping for about 4 days afterwards but nothing since.
It hasn’t affected my sex drive and I haven’t put on weight.
You will get relief from meno symptoms from the estrogen the progesterone in the Mirena is to keep the womb lining thin and won’t do anything for meno symptoms.

I had a Mirena (and nothing else) right through menopause and not a single hot flush. Mildly uncomfortable going in, with spotting for a few months, then... nothing.
It doesn't suit everyone, but for me it was fantastic.
