Mirena or Utrogestan?

For perimenopause/PMS symptoms? Am taking Estrodot but the Utrogestan every month just gives me the rage.

Wondering if Mirena would be better to stop the cycling of symptoms? Or would I feel rough all month round? Just interested to hear how those of you on Mirena with oestrogen supplements feel ...

Mirena for me. As you said nitrogen really effected my mood

I just could not tolerate Utrogestan, had the Mirena 2.5 years now and very happy with it, I use Estrogel with it.

I've been tempted by the Mirena as no oral progesterone is ideal and neither are the bleeds that come with it if you do cycles.

One thing that's putting me off the Mirena is that although it's supposed to be localised, there is still some of the hormone in the blood stream. (There are papers on this and they show it's at the level of a low dose combined patch.)

For me, that's a no-no due to the association of breast cancer with synthetic progestogens (they have a higher risk.) I've been on HRT for 10 years , want to carry on as long as I can, and I don't want to increase my risk.

If this isn't an issue for you, the Mirena may be perfect but my main concern is long-term safety.

Thanks, I'm taking the Utrogestan intravaginally 200 mg, not sure if that's a lower dose than the amount of progesterone that reaches the blood via the Mirena. I guess I might just have to try it and see...

They are 2 totally different products.

In research papers there is a pecking order of cases of breast cancer / types of progestogen.

MPA is highest risk, followed by Norethisterone, then dydrogesterone, all of which are synthetic (chemically different to our own.)

Utrogestan is the brand name for micronised progesterone which is a natural hormone the same as our own.
