I had it done! It was fab and has worked. However I had my done under local anaesthetic and it was excruciating! Get it done under general. Was just a little period pain after and nothing that painkillers did not sort out. So glad I had it done x

Rayn · 29/09/2018 12:24

Oh it worked straight away x

brilliant thank you ! yes booked for general. Can I ask were you having constant periods before ? sometimes heavy , sometimes just annoying ?

I had it done about 9 years ago under general anesthetic due to really heavy periods which were causing me to be anaemic. I had mild period like pain for a couple of days afterwards & although my periods never stopped completely they have been extremely light & short ever since.

Family143 · 29/09/2018 14:23

I just wish I had had it done sooner rather than put up with horrendous periods!!
It also drastically reduced pmt.

ObiandMillie · 29/09/2018 14:29

I'm considering this as well, but I really wanted local anaesthetic rather than general. Is it really that bad with a local? Sad

DameFanny · 29/09/2018 14:42

I had it done under local, it was tolerable. I'm not sure how much difference the local actually made, but my wiring is weird for anesthetics anyway. Could feel the heat and the pain, and it was a bit longer than the time given in the leaflet, but I walked away after and recovery was quicker than with a general.

If you can tolerate an endometrial biopsy, you should be able to tolerate an ablation - there's more of it, but it's similar if you see what I mean?

And I haven't had a period to notice since, which I'm still celebrating Grin

ObiandMillie · 29/09/2018 14:58

Hmmm I didn't tolerate the biopsy all that well Grin Maybe ablation with a local isn't the best idea for me. But I desperately want the end result you speak of.

Undies1990 · 29/09/2018 15:16

I had hydro-thermal balloon ablation under general anaesthetic. It was uncomfortable for a couple of days afterwards but then absolutely fantastic - no more heavy periods making me anaemic, just light, short ones. I would recommend the procedure and would not hesitate to have it done again if necessary. Don't worry, just go for it.

DameFanny · 29/09/2018 15:19

Yeah, if you struggled with the biopsy take the general for the ablation - they'll only need to put you out for a few minutes anyway

BirdieInTheHand · 29/09/2018 15:49

I had it done a month or so ago under general. Having it with a local was never discussed.

I've had no bleeding since but have had a constant watery discharge which is apparently normal but annoying as I feel I've swapped one issue for another

Groovee · 29/09/2018 15:53

I had one last year in July.

Prior to my surgery I bled every day from January. On the day of my surgery I was bleeding heavily 😭.

Within 18 hours I had no bleeding and my pain from the surgery was gone. I did wake up and despite having a lot of pain relief wondered if I had done the right thing.

I don't get periods as such but get a bloody discharge at my tomt but nothing like what I was living with in the 3 years prior to my surgery. I feel so much better and good within myself. Best decision I ever made.
