Blood pressure monitoring on hrt

6SpringCats · 29/09/2018 09:55

Apparantly blood pressure should be monitored whilst on hrt. Anyone know how often?
I have had to order hrt over the internet so want to make sure it is checked when needed.
Also are there any other follow up checks doctor's do?
Thanks

Did you read that on USA or other-country website? I suspect monitoring in UK means checking before the first prescription, not routinely thereafter in absence of other symptoms.

Mine is measured every time I need a repeat prescription, so every three months. My blood pressure has gone up recently so I've had to come off HRT while we try to get it down, otherwise you are apparently at a higher risk of blood clots and strokes.

Once a year as part of an annual review. The licensing rules for HRT is there must be at least one review annually.

HRT does not usually affect BP . If you have high BP you can still use HRT and your BP has to be treated as a separate issue.

There is more need to monitor BP with the Pill as it contains a much higher level of hormones. Doesn't apply to HRT.

You can also buy your own BP monitor very cheaply around £25-£30 and measure at home if it's something that worries you.

@chocaholic- what steps are in place to manage your BP?

Lifestyle ? (exercise and diet?) Meds?

Your GP is incorrect to stop it. What ought to happen is they treat the BP as a separate issue and if they/ you are worried, you swap from tablets to patches or gel which do not raise risks of blood clots.

This is ALL in the medic guidelines- have a search :) Website of Dr Louise Newson, GP/meno dr is excellent.

Thanks. I do have a home blood pressure monitor so I'll just check every month to start with.
