Mid cycle bleeding

pinkandbluestripes · 12/08/2018 12:03

I'm 42 and noticed some light bleeding this morning. Pinkish. I am probably just over half way through my cycle. So far it doesn't seem heavy in fact it may have stopped now.

My cycles are usually 24-27 days though a few months ago nothing happened til around day 32 ish.

Has anyone else experienced this? I probably will phone GP tomorrow but trying not to worry. Thanks

Bump. Still bleeding a little bit!

Definitely get it checked out. I have had to see a gynaecologist recently (for other symptoms) and that was one of the questions he asked me and when I said it had happened a couple of times, queried why I hadn't had it checked out at the time. I didn't think anything of it when it happened but he seemed to think it was something I should have taken notice of.

Nothing has come up on any of my tests so hopefully will be the same for you.

pinkandbluestripes · 12/08/2018 13:22

Thanks. On the one hand, I am hoping it's my age but on the other hand I'm feeling quite sad if it is my age. It's hard not to worry either way.

Anyone else have this?

I had exactly that, I also found my cycle has gone down to 24/25 days as I've slid into my 40s. I had a scan of my ovaries and also the ovarian cancer blood test and all was well, hormone tests indicated 'peri menopause'.

pinkandbluestripes · 12/08/2018 14:27

Thanks fab. I'm feeling quite tearful! I'm anxious that there may be something seriously wrong but also upset that I may be at this stage of my life.

Pink it sounds like peri to me! Maybe you also need a scan but I have the same symptom during my peri. I am 42 too.

pinkandbluestripes · 12/08/2018 18:36

Thanks Emerald. I will phone GP tomorrow but am dreading it as am not good with gynae investigations. It's reassuring to hear from other women though.

At the other extreme- could it be implantation bleed? Maybe do a pregnancy test too.

pinkandbluestripes · 12/08/2018 18:39

Don't!!!

Saw GP. Couldn't feel anything worrying on exam but have been urgently referred for scan as mid cycle bleeding unusual. Trying not to worry.

Good luck and try not to worry - it's a typical symptom of Peri, obviously the sinister stuff needs ruling out though

pinkandbluestripes · 13/08/2018 21:40

Thanks Fab. You know when you really just want them to say it's all fine and no need to do anything, away on home?! I am fortunate enough to get scan later this week.

pinkandbluestripes · 16/08/2018 11:53

Blood tests for hormone are normal so presume not peri menopausal. Scan seemed ok. Still spotting.

Hope you get some answers

Choccywoccyhooha · 27/08/2018 02:08

I have just in my last two cycles had mid-cycle pinkish bleeding. I am assuming peri-menopause too and didn't think to get it checked out.

LadyLapsang · 27/08/2018 12:49

Get it checked out - it will put your mind at rest. You could have a polyp for example. Are you up to date with your smears? Also, peri doesn't always show in first blood tests. As they say, it's probably nothing, but once you have got it checked out you will know. Stay away from Dr Google and see your GP.

pinkandbluestripes · 27/08/2018 12:58

Thanks. Had scan showing small but not unusual cyst. Everything else looked clear. Smear is due but can't do at present because still bleeding slightly (stopped for a few days but started again when period due).

Ive has this done early 40s. I was referred for a scan too and nothing was found and was told that it is very common but always investigated just in case. I’m now 52 and I still Get it but I don’t worry at all.

pinkandbluestripes · 27/08/2018 13:09

Thanks Lizzie. That's good to know. The consultant was reassuring but still feeling very anxious as hasn't stopped.

Honestly, mine often just keeps going until about 2 days before my next one starts.

Such fun! Hmm I cannot wait until it all stops!

LadyLapsang · 27/08/2018 19:53

As well as the scan, have you had a proper examination by a gynae with a speculum? A scan will not necessarily pick up polyps in the vagina.

pinkandbluestripes · 27/08/2018 20:41

Can't remember! Was internal scan that I do remember. GP also did internal manual exam few days before and said couldn't feel any lumps or bumps.

OP posts:
LadyLapsang · 29/08/2018 08:30

Go for the smear. If the GP didn't use a speculum and have a proper look, something may have been missed. Ask the person taking the smear if they notice anything unusual. May be a good idea to have fresh eyes, so book the smear with a different G P or the nurse.

funmummy48 · 29/08/2018 08:33

I had the same thing & it was caused by a polyp, which was removed. All was fine afterwards.
