How to get testosterone?

Hi, I'm peri and on 3 pumps oestrogen daily and ultogestan (hmm, I may have got its name a bit wrong) 24 days a month. Reading the threads on here, I'm wondering if I'd also benefit from testosterone: tired, low libido. Actually, no libido. I would really like to try it for a month or so and see. But I'm not sure how to get it. There's no way I could afford prof studd, and I live in a rural area not blessed with a meno clinic. Is it worth trying my gp, and if so, what should I be asking for, and what justification should I give her? Are there any magic open sesame words?
Thanks in advance for any help. Off to sleep now but will check tomorrow to see if any hints.

It's unlikely your GP will provide as it's off-licence for women. You could ask though.

Few questions though:

why are you using Utrogestan for 24 days a cycle? That is the (almost) equivalent of continuous HRT which is for women who are 12 months post-menopause. You ought to be (more usual) using it for 12-14 days a month only. Was it a typo?

If it's NOT a typo and you are on it 24 days it could well be causing you to feel tired- it has a sedative effect.

Thanks QueenoftheNights. No, not a typo. The GP offered 2 alternatives- a higher dose for 10 days a month, or a lower (100 mg per day) for 24 days. I do find it a bit complex. Also putting on weight suddenly.

the 24 days a month is really a continuous regime and not usually used for women in peri. It allows a 3- day gap when you may have a slight bleed, but unlikely. I have tried that regime too (but I'm a lot older- in my 60s) and didn't like it- felt too tired.

You might feel better on 200mgs x 10 days a month.

Thank you, I will try it!

I take 200 msg for 14 days a mth. I'm supposed to take it from the 1st to 14th, but am a bit out of sync.

Testosterone - I get it on NHS but originally went to a private gynae for prescription. I have a good GP! Trying it for a month is not really enough - it can take several months for all the effects to become fully apparent. However if you are taking 24 days of Utrogestan this could be a major factor in your tiredness and possibly libido too so the first thing I would do is to take a shorter dose (duration) to the recommended amount for cyclical HRT ie 200 mg for 12 days and see how you get on. Try this for a few months and see if there is any improvement and if not think about T. No need to see Studd but you;d need to research gynaes to find out if they prescribe this as not all do - also see if your local GP practice will do so, or if they can refer you to a menopause clinic if you are lucky enough to live in an area where there still is one.

Hi, I’m going to try 200 utrogestan for 14 days a month as suggested. And have made appointment with a gynaecologist who (allegedly) specialises in meno as the comments really bring home the fact that not a good idea to rely on gp for advice. Will start saving.

Just wondered- might the excessive (for peri) utrogestan also be causing weight gain? My waistline, which was fine, has recently vanished without trace.Really depressing. It makes me feel old.

So grateful for comments and benefit of others’ experience.
