What age did you switch to continuous hrt ?

I am 52 yrs old currently on sequential hrt. The kind where you have a bleed. I wonder what age you were when you switched to the continuous kind ? I was 48 and perimenopausal when I started taking hrt. I hadn’t gone the full year without a period so I guess the age at which I switch might be rather arbitrary.

Never. it's not mandatory. I don't like using progesterone daily (short and long term negative implications) The rule is 12 months with no natural period so in your case, you could just try it and see- if you are still having periods you will get erratic bleeding for a while.

Thanks Queen.
I know what you mean about the progesterone part of the packet.
On ellestte duet 1 mg I got chin spots and period pains. I realise I got off easier that most because I did not get mood swings.
I am about to switch to femostron because the progesterone is meant to be more easily tolerated .

Queen surely progesterone protects your womb while you take oestrogen HRT? I now use Oestrogel with a progesterone tablet in the evening which I was told would help me sleep (and it does!)

I've been asking myself the same question for a while now, I too started sequential HRT at 48 - before that though I was on the mini pill so I have no idea if I was still having periods! Dr and I decided to try swapping to continuous when I was 52 and it was dreadful - I bled continuously for 5 months accompanied by almost constant period cramps, I gave up and went back on sequential. I would love not to have a monthly bleed, but think I'll give it a while before trying again after last time!

Yes it protects and has to be used. But it can be used as part of the cycle for several days a month, or daily (continuously.)

I have tried it continuously and I got migraines every day when the levels fell in my blood. My consultant also believes the less progesterone the better re, breast cancer.
