When to worry about excess hair??

I noticed last year that the hair on my head was thinner, and around the same time started the next stage of my ongoing battle with facial hair.

I come from a hairy family. I have eyebrows an 80year old pirate would be proud of and have been fighting a moustache for years.

All of the facial hair is increasing, including hair where sideburns would be.

And then there's my ears. Honestly, I've dreaded having hairy ears. I thought maybe is escape with being female. No such luck. But worse than the standard hair sprouting in the ears, I have hard and quite long hairs right inside my ears. These are different from the sprouty ones and a bit like those weird hard white ones you sometimes find on your face.

I've put off going to the Dr, mainly as I fear I'll make all the effort and get brushed off. I've asked for tests before and had it explained to me that everyone slows down as they get older.

Should I be worried by this onslaught of hair? And particularly, should I worry about this new weird ear hair?

Everything I search online is aimed at men or talks about these tiny inner ear hairs that are delicate. Mine could string a violin!!

pah, someone will be along soon to say that you should take HRT because it cures all ills, the ultimate miracle drug to counter female ageing. Maybe it is the best solution for hair in wrong places.

I was thinking about HRT but only because I have bad osteoporosis in the family.

It's all such a lottery and I don't think the Dr would be tailoring it to suit me.

I was hoping to drag myself through menopause with no drugs and no weight gain.

How old are you OP?
I'm early 40s and have been on HRT for about 2 years. I've noticed increasing hairiness and have changed my medication because of it with no success. I really hope it's not just an age thing I will have to get used to Sad
In short I feel your pain Flowers

I'm late 40s and not on anything, so definitely not pleased about growing so many extras.

If I thought HRT was going to turn me full wolf I think I'd have to say no. I do not need any extra help in that department.

I asked my son if he would notice my sideburns if he didn't know me. He said, But they aren't any worse than mine...

Why not get laser and get rid of it permanently? I've been on HRT for 12 years and I'm pale blond naturally but still get these alien thick black hairs growing out of my chin - what the hell i don't have black hairs anywhere else. I'm getting them all lasered off.

I think I'll have to look into it. They grow so quick as well.

It’s miserable. I recently asked my Gp about prescription cream that slows hair growth but she said I’d have to pay for it myself at £90 per script. I could grow a beard that any man would be proud of. As if the hot flushes the erratic periods and the mood swings aren’t enough to suffer!

That's unfair. I know it's not a medical condition (though might be the symptom of one), but the emotional side of it can be hard hitting.
