3mg Femoston anyone ?

I have been on Oestrogel 3 pumps a day with Utrogestan 12 days a month for about a year, for various reasons my menopause lady just put me on Femoston 2mg+Femoston 1mg, so that’s two pills a day. She wants me to have about the same as if i was using the gel, have you had this experience? I haven’t come across anyone who is taking 2 doses per day, any advice/comments would be great ! Thanks

I have heard of some women - only via forums- taking pills plus gel but not 2 pills.

It sounds slightly weird.

3 pumps of gel is not 3 mgs estrogen. 2 pumps is 1.5 mgs estrogen and 1 pump is 0.75. So, doing the maths, that's 2.25 mgs.

I'd have thought that 2mg Femoston was enough (though bear in mind it may not all be absorbed as it's the oral route.)

You will also be getting more progesterone with 2 pills whereas whether you use one pump of gel or 4, you will always take the same amount of Utrogestan.

Why is the regime you are on now not suiting you? Is it the gel or the Utrogestan you don't like?

Hi queen thanks for replying, i know slightly strange decision from menopause lady who told me she does prescribe the 2 pills together occasionally even though it is not licenced, because i don’t know anyone who takes 2 pills a day i am slightly worried, she’s not !
I needed to stop the gel as i am getting rashes from it and i don’t seem to absorb Utro very well vaginally or orally so when she told me about 2/10mg Femoston i did mention i would not be getting enough as if i was taking the gel so she said i could take 1/10mg to top it up bearing in mind taking it orally does get lost through digestion etc.. what do you think ?

I suppose it's worth giving it a go. But if I were you I'd start with 2mgs and see how it went. assume you have tried gel on your upper arms and thighs and still no joy?

Discoisabelle · 26/06/2018 18:46

Yes i applied the gel in all different places with no joy, i agree with your comment, will start with 2/10mg, see how i feel then will top it up if symptoms come back, thanks for your replies Queen.

What's a 'menopause lady ' ?
Is she a medical professional, a specialist nurse ...??

Discoisabelle · 26/06/2018 20:04

Ophelia, yes she is a GP in my area with a keen interest on HRT and hosts a tuesday ‘Menopause clinic’, very Pro HRT, she’s quite clued up and respects the NICE guidelines normally but not in this instance ! She’s best pal with Louise Newson. We call her our ‘Menopause Lady’ Smile

Have you thought about patches instead of gel? Just asking because long term they are safer. (transdermal).

Emerald13 · 26/06/2018 22:30

Hi Disco, I am on Femoston 2/10 too. My gyn suggested that if I had symptoms I could increase my dose but I didn’t need it. I think that if you are feel ok with 2mg you don’t need change it. Can I ask your age? Maybe if you are under 40 you need extra estrogen for your body.

Discoisabelle · 27/06/2018 08:26

Hi Queen , thanks for your advice, patches would not stick , i sweat like a pig since beginning of peri it’s shocking,so i know this one is not an option, i took my first one last night but holding back the 1/10mg for now.
Emerald i am 51, been on hrt for one year, so did your doctor actually suggest an extra Femoston pill if you needed it ?

Yeah, exactly but I didn’t need it yet. I am 43 and feel good taking 2mg but I have very very light periods on it. No side effects...touch wood!
