Early perimenopause?

I thought I'd see if anyone with more experience could help me understand what's what.
I'm in my mid thirties and have been experiencing some strange symptoms and changes in my cycle for the last few years. I didn't really think much of it at first as really wasn't thinking about menopause as I turned 30 and at first it was only periods getting heavier and cycle a couple days shorter, it used to be very regular, 28 days. I had noticed PMS before that in late 20s which I didn't have before, just being more irritable. Now in the last couple of years I've started having night sweats for over a week before a period, and last 2 cycles have been 21 days which really surprised me..like it wasn't bad enough having over a week long ones every 4 weeks! Angry Just feels like a constant - period, sweating period...Sad Fed up. Have been suffering from anxiety too.
Had a blood test done but have been told everything's normal, so I was confused about that and the fact my mum had her menopause at 50 without any problems at all! She told me that she had night sweats around my age because she had thyroid problems, and it stopped after getting medication. So I was wondering if my symptoms mean that I'm in peri and if so why is mine so much earlier than my mum's?
Sorry about the long post..Blush

Have you had a thyroid check OP?

DaintySong · 22/06/2018 19:18

I have a few years ago. Whatever problems I have they always tell me that the blood tests are "normal", makes me feel like I'm imagining things!
But as my periods have changed too recently, I don't expect that it could be because of thyroid problems, or could it?

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along.

Someone mentioned on another thread about B12 levels and the NHS not treating until they were pretty low, whereas other countries, Japan I think it was, treated sooner. So I don't know if the thyroid tests are similar.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks for replies! Smile
Yes, I think that I actually have read about some people having thyroid symptoms but not being treated because the test results are low but according to NHS still "normal"! It doesn't help that I don't know what any of it means or what my results were. I might actually try and find out more. I'm just not sure if thyroid would cause these changes.
I have started putting weight on a lot easier now too but thought it's just me getting older...Hmm

Blood tests aren’t always accurate during peri. Maybe it is just a hormonal imbalance and not a premature menopause. Sometimes it is genetic but not always. I had my meno at 42 and my mum at 47.
You can check your FSH and your thyroid. Hope it helps.

Yes, I think that I actually have read about some people having thyroid symptoms but not being treated because the test results are low but according to NHS still "normal" It's really not on is it. There must be so many people wondering what the heck is still wrong, when they go for all these tests and apparently nothing is showing up.

Yeah, go back to the GP. I hope you get some answers soon.

Thanks, I guess you can't just rely on the NHS doctors to do best for you, need to double check everything yourself... it seems like they can't afford to care about your comfort anymore, it's mainly about saving lives when it gets really bad!

This is what it seems to have come to Sad

Hiya.. When l had my bloods done for perimenopause (I'm 43) l asked them for the actual result and then with the receptionist actually, went through what the 'normal' range is on Google and saw that l was at the top end of the normal range... might be worth doing - doesn't give any definitive help but might provide another piece of the puzzle... Good luck - it's no fun x

@DaintySong
Hi I had similar symptoms recently. I Went to gp they said b12 & folate low but otherwise all ok. I want a baby so i decided to have some private blood tests. Horrified at results. I was referred straight to an Nhs ivf clinic with premature ovarian failure. The clinic told me i couldn't waste any time. Luckily i seem to have caught that in time and have just conceived on my first ivf attempt (with very few eggs left) if children is something you want in the future take action on this now. Good luck xx
