high blood pressure on ellesse

I am 44 and I have been on HRT (ellesse duet) for 2 years. From about age 40 my periods became extremely irregular and I had hot sweats but no other symptoms but as I could have a period after 2 weeks then not again for 4 months, sometimes heavy ,sometimes barely nothing, I got it checked and my FSH levels were taken twice and both were high. Therefore I was classed as peri menospausal and advised to go on HRT. I did lots of research about this as I had very few symptoms was it the right thing to do but due to my young age I was told by several professionals that it was very important to make sure I had the oestrogen to protect my heart and bones. Two years later and I am on the HRT but my blood pressure is rapidly rising at each check and my latest check was 168/74 and five minutes later was 153/84. I have been asked to see my GP tomorrow to discuss way forward as this is stage 1 hypertension. I am not overweight and I don't smoke or drink and I exercise and eat well so don't think it can be lifestyle related. I have read that some types of HRT can cause high blood pressure but you need oestrogen to protect the heart so that is a bit contadictor!!. Has anyone else had this problem on Ellesse?? I don't know if I should come off it altogether as I didn't have any major symptoms although since being on it I haven't had any heart palpitations or hot flushes and generally feel much more energised.

This sounds like white coat syndrome( anxiety having it checked.) Your diastolic reading was normal for the first reading (under 80) and slightly over 80 the 2nd time.

You could buy a monitor ( around £20) to use at home and test it yourself once a day, at rest, not after exercise, eating or drinking, and see how it is.

HRT doesn't often cause high BP but it ought to be treated as a separate condition if you have it.

If you are diagnosed with hypertension, you will need therapy for it independently from hrt. You can have your hrt but you need first to stabilize your blood pressure with or without meds.

Another reason for elevated bp at the doctor's can be movement (the act of walking, and talking) raisles it a bit. That is why why you should sit quietly and not talk when taking it. My gp did not put me on hrt because I had high blood pressure, but that was 20 yrs ago and meds change and are improved a lot since then.
In the meantime avoid salt and caffiene and try and get a good sleep each night. Pain, fatigue and stress can make it high too. Good luck.
