Joint pain and early menopause

Pigletpoglet · 06/06/2018 22:13

Waiting on the results of blood tests, but the GP thinks my joint pain (wrists, hands, fingers and knees) is probably related to an early menopause/drop in oestrogen. I am 41, have a mirena (so no periods), and my DM had finished menopause by 42. Occasional mild hot flushes (usually an hour after getting up, or an hour after evening meal - very mild though!), definitely struggling with vocabulary - finding the right words, and more forgetful/confused.
Has anyone had similar? Any wise advice? What is the thinking on HRT for early menopause? Any useful reading?

Thanks!

It sounds like early menopause due to your symptoms and your family history. You need absolutely hrt for your bones, heart, brain and skin. I was diagnosed at 42 and I am on hrt a year. Get informed and take care! :)

Menopause Matters website or My Menopause Doctor ( Louise Newson),

I'd recommend this book: www.amazon.co.uk/Premature-Menopause-Book-Kathryn-Petras/dp/0380805413 (premature menopause by Kathryn Petras) and also the Daisy Network who do a range of factsheets.

I've been on HRT for about 10 years now for early menopause, it's recommended to replace the oestrogen you should still be getting naturally. I just try not to look at the list of potential side effects too much!

Hi Piglet! I found Menopause Barbie at you tube very helpful and unique! I highly recommend her! She makes my day! :)

Nice guideline www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23/chapter/Recommendations

Hope you find some treatment that suits you. For me it was HRT, yoga, regular exercise and eating better. I get emotionslly wobbly if I don’t! My joints are a bit affected too, but not quite the same as yours.

I feel emotionally wobbly all the time at the moment. I'm 45 last period was a 3 day barely noticeable event after slowing down over the last 6-12 months, prior to that I couples change clothes numerous times a day due to flooding.

I feel anxious, shaky and not me. I'm due on now and have had some brown blood (sorry TMI) when wiping. My mom skipped a period at 45/46 and was done by 52, hoping I might be the same.

I do not like this!!!!
