Aargh hot red face. Hot flushes?

As far as I'm aware I don't get hot flushes as yet, but for the last year I find any exercise, no matter how gentle (walking etc) gives me a hot, red, sweaty face for HOURS and it's hard to cool down. Worse in this weather obvs.

I woke last night with what felt like a hot core, like inside my torso and chest a little furnace was blasting away, but my clothes were dry. Did that uncover/cover dance all night, getting cold then hot etc. Woke still feeling hot, worked out and had a long walk and I'm boiling (cuddly dog on the sofa not helping).

I guess the reason this feel different because it's like the heat has got inside me rather than the air being hot iyswim. My face is burning up and feels hot inside but cool to the touch. Does that ring any bells with anyone? Is this a hot flush?

I think it sounds like your ability to adjust to temperature changes is a bit shot, which sounds menopausal. Look at symptom lists and see if you have any others - joint pains, tiredness, emotions, sleep issues. Pretty much anything really, sadly.

Yes, some joint niggles (out of the blue in last month or so), some nausea, periods all over the place etc. Moods are good but I don't suffer fools iyswim.

I did recently slightly raise my thyroid meds but I think if that was the issue I'd feel warm all the time and there would be other side effects. I'll keep an eye on it, maybe make a tiny tweak and see if I feel any different.

My hot flush phase was a bit like this. A furnace so hot you could roll in snow. It's as though the thermostat is broken. A change of temperature from room to room triggered the furnace, as did a hot drink, food and the bedcover dance was a nightmare.
One tip for nights is to have two single duvets so you get the thinnest. Then put a cotton sheet under the duvet so instead of throwing all the covers off and waking up freezing 10 minutes later it moderates it a bit.

I'd call that a hot flush, exactly what I get, literally feel it travelling up my body to my face, and usually go bright red in the face. I've never had night sweats.

I've had this for 12 years. In fact, I'm having the bed dance as I type.

Like the PP, hot flushes are unpredictable and mine occurr at night. The uncontrollable bastards make me so cross, and my sleep is hugely disrupted. I have a fan at the side of me as I find it soothing in cooling me down. Then, cold again.

I'm post-menopausal in that I've not had a period for three years. I've tried HRT, hated it and have done cold turkey with some changes to my life and diet.

Cucumber wipes are great for flushed faces too. A tip kindly shared with me by a fellow sufferer on the train. I still think her to this day.

HTH, OP.

Thanks for the advice all. We have a heavy duvet with a light throw on top and I sort of cycle between them (I like to sleep hugging the heavy duvet if I'm too hot to cover myself with it) but the top sheet idea is a good one.

I know what you mean about feeling the heat has got inside you, I feel like the equivalent of a room with all the windows closed. Really hoping it is this hot weather which is making things worse as hot flushes every 30 minutes is not good.
