Can I get help with symptoms?

Good evening. I am 35yrs old and have been going through fertility investigations for a year and a half now. Recently however my consultant has called an end to everything because he says I'm "late menopause" according to blood test results.

I still have a very normal and regular period and my cycle hasn't changed much except is less painful now I had my endometriosis removed (as much as possible) in April. The issue I have though is the symptoms I am starting to get and I wondered if there was anything I can do to stop/help them. It's been bad this last week (I thought it was a hangover lasting but I've not had a 10day hangover before)

I'm constantly exhausted. To the point of cutting all car journeys to 20mins or less because I'll fall asleep.

I wee myself constantly now (I have a torn pelvic nerve from childbirth but it's never been this bad)

I constantly need the toilet

I'm drying out and breaking out! My skin is dry and no matter how much I drink (my recommended two drinks bottles and more on top) I am still getting bad skin.

You are obviously at premature menopause and you definitely need therapy.
Did your gyn suggest hrt? If your hormones indicate late meno, you probably suffer from the lack of estrogen and that’s why you have such a severe symptoms.
Don’t waste time and don’t wait your body to deteriorate. Ask for help.

@Emerald13 I spoke to my gp this morning and he said he will book me in for some tests but there might be a wait. He said my results suggest I shouldn't have periods anymore and he wants me to keep a record of all symptoms for 90 days to see what it is that's happening. I was on hrt before I got pregnant but I suggested this a year ago and was told it wasn't necessary for my age. My oestrogen levels are fine it's FSH that's high.

Sounds like peri meno rather than late menopause, you could go on for ages like this. As I understand it blood results aren’t the be all and end all as the levels vary so much in peri. If you are having regular periods still then you could have them for years more.
I’m confused by the HRT then pregnancy though ? Why were you on HRT before ? And if then, why not now ?

I was on HRT because my period had stopped for a couple of years when I was anorexic. I wasn't getting periods when I fell pregnant so was three months gone when I found out.

I explained all this and he said it wouldn't work because there's no evidence for it. I had it when I was 16:17 too because I wasn't producing growth hormone and didn't start puberty till 22. Generally he said it's nothing despite me asking multiple times.

Star, high FSH is an indication that your ovaries start to fail, your estrogen is ok maybe cause your ovaries continue to produce some estrogen but with difficulty.
My opinion is to ask a meno expert.
I had reagular periods with too severe symptoms and I was at meno. I was 41 with low body fat too, that makes our symptoms more severe.

ParisUSM · 15/05/2018 06:41

If you are having regular periods you're not in menopause though. My FSH has been off the charts sometimes but I'm still in perimenopause - levels go up and down as we go through peri. Your GP will do tests 4 -6 weeks apart to see what's going on starwishing. Your fertility consultant was only interested in fertility levels, doesn't sound like they are an expert on meno.

good luck, there does sound a lot going on.

Thank you @ParisUSM @Emerald13 @SirVixofVixHall for your input. I think the hardest hung is being 35 and knowing I will never have a baby again because I left it far too late. I didn't meet my DH till I was 31 and got pregnant easily even though I didn't have a period and still had bulimia! Ever since he was born though we've been ttc and I didn't realise it was because I was in the menopause that we were having difficulties.

I'm waiting on an appointment for tests from the gp. I asked when the blood tests would be and he said it's more complicated than that and there might be a wait. He said nothing can happen till I have completed three cycles with record of my symptoms. As we are ttc I actually have that for the last two years anyway and he said that won't count. I need to do it from when my period starts at the weekend. So that will be 5am Friday on the dot (with the exception of my son being late my period is clockwork to the hour)

I also agree you need to see someone who is an expert in menopause. Can you afford to go private ? I’m going to send you a pm.

I also suggest reading “inconceivable “ by Julia Indichova about trying to conceive with a high FSH. And I wouldn’t rule out getting pregnant at this stage, as if you are having regular periods then it still might be possible.
