Will HRT help me?

Hi, I have just spoken to my GP on the phone and she has confirmed that a recent blood test shows that I am now menopausal. I did suspect as much, not just periods stopping but other things like gaining weight (and struggling to lose it) and what I can only describe as a horrible, vile temper. I really do loathe myself and the way I am so quick to fire up at the husband and kids. If I'm not in a temper I am close to tears - I feel like an adolescent again! Not in a good way :(

My GP suggested HRT, but I'm not sure. I know I need to go back and talk it over with her properly, but I'd be grateful to hear from anyone else who may recommend (or not) HRT.

Thank you x

It depends, the only way is to try it.
For me hrt is a lifesaver and it gave my life back. Perfect skin, good energy, good sleep, no brain fog, a bit muscle loss but ok...no night sweats, no mood changes, no tiredness.
But everyone is different, so you can only try and see if it helps! :)

Thank you, it sounds like it may be worth a try just to give me a bit of a jolt out of my crappy mood. Thank you 😊

Hi, I was on cyclo progynova and now on Femaston 2/10. No side effects, I find dydrogesterone milder than norgestrel but no big differences.

Hi, I’m interested to hear peoples thoughts and experiences. I’ve been very lucky have got through the menopause fairly unscathed, just some hot flushes and problems sleeping but I do worry about my bmd, anyone one on her just for that, I’ve started taking calcium and magnesium and I’m a regular exerciser.

They don't advise going on hrt just for bone mass because HRT stops giving protection when you stop taking it and the risk/benefit balance make it not worth it if youv'e no other symptoms. Slightly different if you're under 45 with other risk factors, or under 40.

You can work out your risk using www.sheffield.ac.uk/FRAX/tool.aspx?country=1

@Millionairess Has your GP suggested a DEXA scan for your bones? HRT is still considered first line treatment by some drs for bone loss in younger women. Are you at high risk? You can pay for DEXA scans privately. If you were post meno before 50, worth talking to your dr on it. Friend of mine was considered 'early' at 47 and she broke a bone 10 years later- GP said her meno was early-ish.
The FRAX guide is just that...it's only a guide.
If you use HRT for a while, your bones will improve, so even if the density falls IF you stop HRT (and you don't have to anyway) you've still got a better bone density that if you'd not used HRT at all. You see what I mean?
