Memory loss/Inability to retain information

Looking for advice.

I had the menopause about 4 years ago, aged 44 and have been on HRT since (Femostan Conti oral). My only symptoms in the run up to the meno had been very irregular periods.

Now, here's my problem. My memory and ability to retain information is almost non existent. I completed a Masters course last year and I swear I probably couldn't recall 90% of my learning. In March I did another specialist training course and can't remember any of it!

I divorced last year and had a very stressful time but it's all sorted now and my new life with my kids is starting. In the Summer I'm starting a new job which is a huge challenge. I will be working alongside an expert in this field and I will be on a massive learning curve. I really need to be at the top of my game.

Any clue if my problem is meno related or am I just getting old? I can't accept that my life could be like this for another 40 years! Any advice appreciated

I think that the dose of estrogen that you are on is too low for your age. The lack of estrogen can cause some problems regarding the brain, ex brain fog, anxiety, insomnia, forgetfulness etc. Maybe it is also related with Alzheimer disease at an older age.
I had my meno at 41, I am on hrt, 2mg estradiol and I still find it sometimes quite low for me.
So I think that It isn't your age, it is your too little estrogen the main cause for your memory issues. Hope it helps! :)

Thank you emerald that’s reassuring. I’m going to see my GP in my so I’ll ask to have it increased.

So I’d need to try a 2mg?

This will mean me moving off Femosten so presumably my progesterone content will change too?

Also, can anyone tell me what the bioidentical HRT’s are? I can’t seem to find them? What are their brand names?

Yeah, maybe you need a seq type with a higher dose of estrogen. You will need to take progestin only for 14 days per month to induce a period. I am not an expert, ask your gyn for sure!
As for bio identical HRT, it’s complicated. These products are compounded from pharmacies and they are not approved. They are not checked for their safety and they used more in USA.
In Europe we use body identical hrt, that means that they are more close to our natural hormones and our body can easily recognize and use them.

Thank you emerald I don’t have periods. I’d been period free for a year prior to starting HRT so I was put on continuous combined therapy. I don’t want periods to restart.

I think my options up from Femostan are Elleste Duet or Kliofem. These would give me 2mg of oestrogen but the progesterone dose is different. It must be a different type of progesterone as the dosages don’t match.
In Femostan it’s dydrogesterone whereas on the others it’s norethisterone.
