Anyone know the prognosis for menopausal arthritis?

Knee stiff and painful, for past few months, worse in the wet/cold. Triggered initially by impact (running). Haven’t been to see the GP, presume its osteoarthirits, and a quick google suggests can be connected with oestrogen changes in menopause. I am exercising, losing weight etc. I was just wondering if it is likely to go away at some point, or if it will always be stiff now?

Yes, it’s due to the lack of estrogen. Estrogen affects collagen’s synthesis at tendons and bones and muscles.
At meno many women are diagnosed with arthritis and osteopenia due to these changes.
I had severe pains at my bones and tendons too, I wasn’t able to continue my training and the only thing that helped me is hrt.

You could try taking glucosamine, fish oil and turmeric. I take all 3 and it helps enormously.

Did it get better after a period of time Emerald? Or do you still get pain? I am just curious as to whether it is a ‘phase’, which I will get through, an on-off condition, or lifelong.

Frenchfancy, I have started on the Turmeric a few weeks ago, and I am sure it is helping. I was wondering about glucosamine, so I might pick that and some fish oil up too, thanks.

I really don’t know Brown cause I took hrt and my symptoms improved almost immediately. I think that if I stop the hormones my symptoms will be back.
My gyn and my endo said that without estrogen I will have severe osteoporosis or arthritis in 10 or less years. In depends on your age, your history, your genes.

Thanks 😃. I am on HRT and not thinking about coming off it for at least 6 years. Also take vit D, not sure if I am deficient.

My hip started clicking when I walked downstairs.took hrt and it went that was 4 years ago.

No it doesn't go away.
My arthritis coincided with the menopause. I don't think it's a symptom of menopause just that it often begins when oestrogen reduces. I have osteo and Rhematoid arthritis.
I think you would be better getting a proper diagnosis than taking snake oil supplements. If it's osteo-arthritis there isn't any treatment but RA, while more serious, does have treatments which are best started sooner rather than later.
I imagine that if HRT "cures" the symptoms they will return when you stop taking it.
