How heavy is heavy?

Sorry for way tmi here but I don't know what is normal and I am stressing.

I'm 45, overweight and possibly Peri- menopausal. I take iron tablets after a blood test last year showed a deficiency which is likely due to heavy periods.

Thing is, how do you define heavy? I am on Day 3 today - day 1 light bleeding, yesterday heavy. Today I have passed at least eight or nine large clots - larger than a 50p piece - as well as general bleeding. Been away from home so had some seriously unpleasant public toilet visits. Using tampons with a pad to back up, but very sore.

I just want it all to fuck off but it isn't. How much heavier is it likely to get?

The clots are horrible, I've had periods where I have had much more than 8 or 9 clots, but I've had others with none at all. I think it just all becomes very variable and unpredictable with stopping and starting. Worst I've had is going through a super tampon in an hour but I have a colleague who only lasts 15 minutes on her worst days.

Would advise tranexamic acid to make things more manageable. Some use the mirena to help. Worth getting ferritin levels checked too, mine go down about 3 points per period as I'm losing so much blood.

It's all a bit rubbish but won't be forever I keep telling myself.

Heavy and unusual bleeding can be a sign of fibroids and maybe you need an investigation.
If everything is clear and you cannot handle it you can use mirena or hrt for relieving.
