Wrong HRT Patches?

Hi everyone, I’ve just registered with this forum but been dipping in and out online through Google threads for a few years.

So, just over four years ago I was put on Femseven Sequi patches (I had just turned 50 and am now 54), after suffering awful flushes/sweats - day and night, debilitating bleeds, severe vaginal dryness and serious mood swings. My gp gave me a blood test and said I was peri menopausal. All has been great (apart from the dryness 😒) almost from the first patch going on....until around six months ago. It started with the occasional night sweat, say one or two a week. Then I had a ‘smudge’ one day. Thought nothing of it as the benefits were still better than the alternative. I’ve recently had breast pain and a mammogram in the past month (all clear), then a five day bleed two weeks ago. My gp told me I should only have been on Sequi for the first year, then Conti thereafter 😱 (I have to say there are five gps at my practice so don’t see the same one very often). She told me to stay on these patches until investigations are complete. I now have to have a hysteroscopy, I’ve had a biopsy (painful 😩) and also ultrasound scans in and out. My worries are: has this caused any long term damage? Should I stay on HRT after the results or will I be safe to go to Conti? Has anyone been on Sequi for a long time like I have? Can anyone help please, I’m very concerned 😔

Don't worry :) There is no set rule about changing from sequi to continuous. It's personal preference as anything. Some of us prefer to stick to sequi as it's more 'natural' to follow a cycle and you don't suffer the side effects of using progestogens every day . In fact some consultants prefer sequi as it reduces the amount of progestogens that are used (and they appear to be the hormone that is the baddie re. breast cancer.) I've used sequi for 10 years. There is a slightly higher risk of endometrial overgrowth which is why having a scan etc is best if you have any odd bleeding, so you've had all of that and sounds as if they hysteroscopy is just to make doubly sure. Sounds though as if you were not for some reason absorbing the hormones in the patch that well for some reason which is why you had symptoms again and some bleeding. Did you do anything different or forget to change it?

Nope, nothing changed at all. I've never had a problem getting the patches to stick or fall off and I have a reminder set so I don't forget to change them!! Just dreading the hysteroscopy now (this Monday) as the consultant has trouble taking a biopsy. She stopped in the end as it was so painful. Thanks for you info, it's helped Smile

Had a back bottom tooth (abscess underneath) taken out 5+ weeks ago. Approx a week ago, three white patches appeared on the inside of my gum next to my tongue, they looked a bit like ulcers and were very sore. Now, the gum has broken and there are bone like structures poking through. I've been back to my dentist and he said to let it all settle down for a few more week then to go back and he will file the bone down!! This doesn't sound right to me. They are NOT tooth fragments. They are hard, feel like part of my jaw and painful - very painful. It appears as if a new tooth is growing. I have a dental phobia as it is and the pain is now radiating all along the bottom of my jaw, up into my cheek and I am taking two different prescription painkillers which are not helping. It's feels like toothache x 100. I am worrying that my jaw is becoming infected. Could they be bone spurs and what can be done? Has anyone on here heard of anything like this? Should I go to a different dentist? Any advice would be welcome please as I'm currently in so much pain and am quite scared.

You need to post this in General Health and under 'new message' in blue- top left.
