Hi .. I'm just new here and do realise that there has been a discussion last year about this but wondered if anyone had anything else to add or help me with...
I was at Dr yesterday with very low mood, crying, no interest in sex, no appetite, weight gain blah blah and was told to take 50mg of Sertaline as this can now help with menopausal symptoms if used at a low doseage..... and then added this could be signs of depression, come back in two weeks let me know how your getting on with it... I'm 52 and told her I was no way depressed. She then said new studies have shown this helps so try it and come back because HRT can be very severe so don't want to go down that road just now... I left with prescription for Sertaline because I never had the balls to stand my ground and ask more questions..... can anyone help ..... thanks

Current guidelines are to use HRT as first line rather than anti depressants. Sounds like the doctor hasn’t caught up yet. If you would prefer HRT then you can go back and request it. Sertraline might help with low mood IF you are happy to take it.
Sertraline won’t work in 2 weeks anyway, it takes a while to fully kick in.

Sertraline is an antidepressant and it is used for clinical depression and not for depression due to hormonal changes.
Maybe you will need HRT for your overall health and I think that you can insist on it and get informed.
''because HRT can be very severe '' what that means? I think the opposite, hrt is more natural for our body than chemicals in psychiatric drugs.
