Worried about biopsy for womb thickening

Had a swab taken and internal exam yesterday after I'd had some spotting. I'm 54 and close to full menopause. Not had a period for 10 years + had coil out in October.

There's some thickening of the womb - 5.8mm which I don't think is that bad, but I've had breast cancer 13 years ago + am a bit scared. Any reassurance would be welcome.

Sorry to hear about your cancer.

I was told that the cut off point of 5mm for the womb lining only applied if you are post menopause. If you have had your coil removed (assume that's what stopped your periods, not lack of ovulation)then your womb lining will build up normally and 5.8mm is not abnormal. Isn't the spotting just a normal, very light period as you aren't postmeno yet?

If the Mirena stopped your periods then you won't know how near menopause you are, although your age is a clue - but presumably you were referred because you had spotting after years of no periods even though this is expected.

As Rosa62 says - 5.8 mm is not thick. What has been said about this thickening if anything? Have you been referred for hysteroscopy or biopsy just to check?

Also sorry to hear about your breast cancer but I'm not sure whether there is a link with endometrial cancer although it's good to be cautious and have any investigations you arew offered.

Sorry - I see from the title you've been offered a biopsy. This is a standard investigation. I had one due to spotting after sex and thickeeened lining ( 7.4 or thereabouts) - but I was on cyclical HRT so the lining waxes and wanes anyway. Try not to worry and look at it as giving you peace of mind and hopefully all will be OK.

Bellaciao yes, some data suggest that there may be an underlying genetic predisposition between breast cancer and uterine cancer but all these are just statistics.
MrsMuddle 5,8 mm isn't too thick as Rosa said and I think that you just need a biopsy for reassuring just in case.
