Anyone had a Mirena coil put in when bleeding?

I had a blood transfusion 10 days ago. Due to heavy periods over a lot of years and a period that has lasted from 9th December! I had thought a lot of my symptoms were perimenopause. I am 47 but most symptoms have cleared up since the transfusion.

I saw a gynaecologist whilst in hospital who scanned and examined me. She found a fibroid in my womb. She offered to put a mirena in (and I was bleeding at the time but not heavily). I didn't want to go through the procedure at the time she offered.

She gave me Provera to stop the bleeding. Which it did until 2 days ago. I have been bleeding quite heavily again for past 2 days. My gp yesterday told me to take transamic acid for the next few days to stop the bleeding and also continue with provera.

The GP is going to call me back on Tuesday to see if this stops the bleeding. If it doesn't he said I will have to have an emergency gynaecology appointment. He said they won't put a mirena in when I am bleeding.

The bleeding hasn't slowed down much. It is still quite heavy. I am worried that the gynaecologist suggests something more invasive than a mirena to stop the bleeding now.

Does anyone have experience of a gynaecologist inserting a coil when you were bleeding?

I got mine 3 years ago so I can't remember fully, but I'm sure I had to have it fitted with hin the first 7 days of my cycle, to ensure I wasn't pregnant first. So I would probably have still been bleeding.

Yes. I was bleeding so heavily I fainted at work.

I went to the hospital to have a fibroid out (it was in a place which was causing the bleeding) and they put in a Mirena at the same time. Best thing I ever did as I don't bleed anymore.

Oh thanks so much. Since I started bleeding 2 days ago I have been so worried that I am going to have to get a hysterectomy. There hasn't been any mention of it but just worried as the provera isn't working.

Thanks again. Good to hear the Mirena has worked for you Ohofcourse.

Definitely try it. To be honest I was more than sceptical as I'd read such awful thing but it's absolutely worked for me and has spared me so much embarrassment ((flooding) and feeling unwell.

Thanks ohofcourse. I am going to try it. The flooding is awful, I was on 2 tena lady at a time for most of my period.

Pleased to hear it has worked so well for you.

I thought I’d responded to this already, yes but under general. However, now I think about it, there was an option of it being done with no anaesthetic but for various reasons I had the general (much as the anaesthetist would have preferred to give me a spinal).

I had heavy periods, my Mirena makes life so much easier. I could go through a super plus extra tampon in five minutes when I was having a bad day before, and I struggled to sleep for worry of leaking everywhere.
It hasn't completely stopped my periods, I just get light ones now, and only mild cramps.
I'm planning to get another in 18 months.

I’m the same, I was bleeding constantly (the joy of early menopause) and it’s now completely resolved. Before that mine were horrendous, this has absolutely changed my life - and weight sadly. But it really ha made a positive change.
