Hello

I've just seen your reply to another poster and wanted to ask about it.

I saw a doctor at the hospital today about going on HRT. He said it was my decision and to read up about it. He said one grandparent having had breast cancer is not a reason to not take HRT. ( I don't know about parents health situation.) He said pretty rubbish deal to not take HRT so as to not get BC but then die of a heart attack.

That's all waffle really. What I wanted to ask you was about your post about side effects of HRT are as bad as the side effects of menopause. I'd never considered any side effects.

I'd prefer to go down the more natural? holistic approach. I respond well to Angus Castus and Star Flower though have stopped the latter lately.

Any advice would be lovely, thank you.

Well I'm not BIWI but wanted to say that you will only find women posting about problems usually on health forums, not coming along to say how great it all is! Every single drug or supplement whether it's prescribed or off the shelf has side effects in some people, but that doesn't mean everyone gets them.

Martyngibson · 08/03/2018 21:09

I've never had any side effects from HRT. Some drugs suit some people. Some don't.

Ok. Thanks.

It's refreshing to hear a GP actually talk sensibly about HRT and discuss the positive effects. Heart disease is the biggest cause of death in women.

Yesterday some new research came out which showed that using HRT for at least 3 years greatly reduces the risk of heart failure in later life.

Would I be silly to go down a more marital route?

I'm feeling very down in myself that I'm already on a low dose AD and feel useless that I need medicine again. The GP said our grandmothers had to go through the menopause without drugs. I know that's a reason for us to though Confused.

Natural not marital.

Yes, and babies used to die of tickets and smallpox... is your GZp a man?

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/03/2018 18:37

Rickets not tickets...

My GP is a woman the doctor I saw yesterday was a man. He wasn't saying I couldn't have HRT because granny had to go without. He was merely saying I don't have to take anything if I'd prefer not too.

I think you need to do some reading about the benefits of HRT as well as the small risks that may apply.

Re. 'natural' if you take paracetamol or any drugs at all for anything- headaches, coughs, colds etc - you are not living 'naturally'. These are all synthetic drugs - all drugs are poisons actually, taken in large enough amounts

HRT is a body-identical product - it's the same as what we have ourselves, it's topping up the levels.

YearOfYouRemember · 10/03/2018 11:15

I rarely take paracetamol and I think it's more to do with having to have had lots of ADs and responding really well to nature stuff. I don't want to put more unnatural stuff in me but if HRT is like us then it isn't no so bad. It might mean I can come off the other stuff I'm on too.

Can anyone tell me if I would, or should, stop my other meds' if I start in the HRT. I am currently taking half a tablet if Mirtazapine. Initially prescribed for helping with sleeping with the acknowledgement that I was probably depressed too with anxiety. Obviously I'll discuss with the GP but it's useful to get other people's thoughts. TIA.

Interesting. My GP and the practice nurse both told me that HRT could cause heart attacks! I told them I thought that was wrong, but they were insistent.

Emerald13 · 15/03/2018 20:57

If your depression is due to hormonal imbalance, it’s likely your GP to suggest to stop taking gradually. If your depression has to do with other causes it’s more complicated. It’s better to discuss the issue with your docs.

Emerald13 · 15/03/2018 21:02

A GP also told me that taking hrt I’ll have a heart attack! The research that showed that was unreliable. That happened when women took hrt at very older ages and after many years of their menopause.

The hospital doctor suggested I google Women's Health Concern and there's lots of information there. If 1000 women were menopausal and didn't take HRT 12 would get BC. Those that smoked were 13 and there were other statistics which leads me to think HRT is a good thing.
