Menopause/polycystic ovaries

I'm a little confused, posted in this section as I need a little advice...

I'm 39 and a doctor in my local practice advised me that since my blood test (for thyroid problems) she thought I had premature menopause and sent me for another blood test. On my return for results, I saw another doctor, he said there was nothing wrong with me (bearing in mind I hadn't had a period for 9 months which was the reason for my initial visit) I booked in for another blood test and then saw a third doctor who agreed with the menopause diagnosis, gave me a prescription for HRT and sent me on my way.

I received a phone call from the third doctor who is changing his mind regarding the menopause and suspects it may be polycystic ovaries instead so sent me for yet another blood test! I got a call from the surgery yesterday saying my hormones were a little on the high side and to get another blood test in 2 weeks. Has anyone else been through this? Is every menopause/polycystic ovaries diagnosis this difficult??? I just want sorted!!!

Sorry for the long-winded post!

My diagnosis was fairly straightforward, although I was only 32 so not really any confusion with the menopause. I had my suspicions I had it and went to my GP. My symptoms were bad acne, irregular periods, and a really bad lady-beard. He sent off some blood for testing and also referred me to an endocrinologist at the hospital, and to do an internal scan on my ovaries. The scan technician showed me the screen and pointed out where all the little cycsts were - it was pretty obvious after that.

Diagnosis should be a combination of things - blood test, scan, and symptoms.
