Can I just post this?

The term 'bio identical ' is not recognised by medical professionals. It is a marketing term which sprang up in the US for 'compounded hormones' (made in a private lab for each woman, often based on blood or saliva tests and unregulated/unlicensed in the UK.)

Unfortunately the term has 'stuck' and is causing confusion. It's partly the fault of the media; celebs saying they use it, not knowing either that it's not the right terminology and the journalist not knowing either.

The term drs use is 'body identical'. All it means is that the products have the same molecular structure as our own hormones , are made from plants, and not horse urine.

Around 90% of HRT used is body identical and found on the NHS and from GPs.

There is this 'mystique' growing around 'bio identical' and it's confusing as women think they have to see a private dr to get it.

Compounded HRT is different.

Noted, thanks Polly.

Thank you Polly. I’m very new to this and have my first doctors appointment tomorrow so I shall bear this in mind.

Thanks Polly! There is a lot of a advertising for bio identical products lately and that are safer than conventional hrt.

Emerald13 · 19/02/2018 19:59

My only doubt about conventional hrt ( I’m on it) is about fixed doses. I mean how I know if I need more estrogen for my age, or testosterone or DHEA? Im on 2mg estradiol and is a fixed dose for different ages. Sufferers from POF take this dose, it’s a dose for early meno and for post meno ladies. My gyn explains to me that it’s the safest dose and it cannot change and my endo after some blood checks said that I don’t need testo or dhea or more estrogen because I have no symptoms of estrogen deprivation. I find the idea of personal hormonal evaluation more attractive!!! 😊
