Night sweats, sobbing at night and extreme anxiety

I am in my early 40s. I have become increasingly anxious in the last few months. As an example I lie in bed going round and round small mistakes I might have made at work and can't go to sleep, making me exhausted in the day. I can barely cope with work at all and mostly think about resigning. Some nights I have night sweats and others I find myself sobbing uncontrollably at night.

I saw a gynaecologist who has prescribed Sandrena which is a form of Hormone Replacement Therapy. I have been taking this for more than a month and it hasn't helped at all. The suggestion is that I might be peri-menopausal I think.

Has anyone seen these symptoms before? They are making life very tiring at the moment. Is there anything I can do?

misscph1973 Well it's all physical in some sense but you are right that I can see a long and boring period of investigation ahead before I get to the bottom of this.

Thank you again PollyPerky. I don't really have proper periods since going on the coil but I assume the doctor can work out suitable dates. I am under the care of a very expensive gynaecologist so if price means anything... :)

I will mention Oestrogel next time I see her.

The Mirena means that any blood tests are quite unreliable- it says this in the NICE guidelines (not sure if you have read them but worth finding online- the longer version for drs is more helpful.)

The Mirena can also prevent ovulation not just implantation.

Not sure about cost= expertise. Mine is medium-high cost but one of the best in the UK (but others who I see reported on forums are more £££ and not so good!)

PollyPerky Do you know a reliable way to find a list of the best gynaecologists in the UK? I just picked the one the GP recommended but I don't know how reliable that is at all.

If you had a link for the NICE guidelines for drs I would hugely appreciate that.

Unfortunately there is no list of specialists- it's a case of recommendation through the grapevine, or looking at the websites of your local private hospitals (or ones further afield such as London) to see who is available and what their interests are.

The NICe guidelines are easy to find if you put the terms into a search engine OR do an advanced search here on MN because I've left links to them here dozens of times.

The difference in the one for HCP and the public is really the length of the document and a small amount of detail.
